Big Sammy…

Sunday, June 22nd, 2014 | Amigurumi, crochet, Pattern | No Comments

While I am busy trying new things and experimenting for an upcoming project, my Sammy pattern has been selling on Ravelry. I am really excited to see some upcoming project photos from people!

Recently I received an email from someone who purchased the pattern. She stated she was making the project for a friend and wanted some advice on modding it for size.

I hadn’t tried modding this for size at all myself, but I wanted to try something out before responding to her email.

Sammy…for size reference.

Everyone’s gauge is different, and your gauge is what will effect the size of the finished product. The easiest way I could think of to make him bigger is to double the yarn and up the hook size. I whipped up a quick sample and sent her the above picture with an explanation of what I did.

I am really looking forward to seeing how big her Sammy turns out!!

A very Hannibal Day…

Sunday, June 1st, 2014 | Amigurumi, blah blah blah, crafts, FO's, Geekery, knitting, Toys | 1 Comment

I swear my life is all about Fandom and Fiber Art lately. I just finished a type of fan art project (more on that later)…I’ve been asked to be in a themed art show (more on that later too)…and then out of the blue, I start getting a barrage of texts.

Turns out a few of my Fannibal friends went to an Emmy screening of Hannibal (Episode 213:Mizumono) last week in Hollywood. They didn’t get in, but they had a lot of fun outside the event.  Remember this?

The Hannibal Lecter Playset.

Well, my friend Ashley decided to take it with her to the Hannibal Screening.

And when my phone blew up…these were the pictures I was receiving…

Mimi Mochi Will Graham and the real Will Graham.

Alana Bloom with Mini Mochi Alana Bloom.

Ash with Hugh Dancy. Apparently, Bryan Fuller took this picture for her.

Caroline Dhavernas with Ash.

She also told me that Bryan Fuller got to see all 4 of them. Kinda cool!

Let’s Talk Crafty Christmas…Part 3

Ashley’s presents were all Hannibal themed this year.

Last year, For Ash’ birthday, I had made her a shoe box Hannibal Lecter Playset by modding a few Mini Mochi patterns. It included Hannibal and a stag in Hannibal’s office. I told her I would try and make her more characters. I didn’t realize how difficult they would be. It is hard to make characters that you can actually identify when knitting so small. I tried to get as close as possible, but Will Graham’s hair was a serious challenge for me.

Like I gave his little tiny soul a fright!

Yes, I put in al the little hairs individually…like a crazy person.

This is what I ended up.

I also decided to weave her a nice sized scarf with a combination of some of my hand spun singles and commercial yarn I had in my stash.

A woven scarf…

…and a really awful picture of the felted stag head detail.

I think she really liked them! Hopefully at some point I will get a picture of all of her little Hannibal characters together!

Knitting Lunch!

Maribel and I met for Knit Lunch last week! On this particular occasion, it was just the two of us.

Back in the day, when we were working together on that cartoon, we would meet up with a few other folks to crochet during lunch. She loves little amigurumi and doll patterns. She did a fabulous job, but I remember that she had some mishaps because crocheting with black yarn is incredibly difficult.

Now, she is relearning knitting…

Do you see the problem here?

I know I’ve been awfully quiet…

…it’s only because I have been SO busy.

I spent the weekend taking a break from working on charity stuff to try and get some special presents done. I hate to admit it, but I haven’t even started Christmas stuff yet and I fear that my procrastination is going to bite me in the ass this year. I have so many friends having babies though! I couldn’t resist making some lovies for wee ones!

Not quite done yet...

I am almost done…maybe just a few finishing touches tonight and I should be complete. Then *maybe* I can start some gifts for Christmas.

Another busy weekend…

Sunday, October 12th, 2008 | blah blah blah, crafts, fiber, knitting, spinning | No Comments

So far so good this weekend. I have a cold…and now both kids have a cold. Poor things sound all raspy. My son sounds exceptionally bad, like a little old man or something. They still want to play and jump around though. They have their toys and all is right with the world.

So, Friday night was the stitch n’ bitch. I brought my wheel again to try and get my spinning done. I ended up finishing my rainbow colored yarn and spinning a full bobbin of worsted weight wool in yellow and blue. I have been taking a little break from knitting because I have so much fiber to spin and the fiber, once it’s spun into yarn, takes up less space.

I got 400+ yards out of the 6 oz. of Superman Ice Cream roving. It is a little overspun, but I think it will look cool knit up. The little bit of Seascape wool I spun got me about 98 yards. I still have an entire bag full of that stuff. It looks like I barely put a dent in it!
Early Saturday morning I went to go get my hair done. I went to Floyd’s Barber Shop. It was a cool place. I ended up getting some color done and had the girl lop off about 4 inches.

A friend was texting me while I had my foil on and said that he thought it would make a funny pic, so I took one. The guy getting a shave next to me asked me if it was helping me get better reception on my phone. I also whipped out my knitting while I was wearing my shiny hat. I got a whopping 2 rows done on my monkeys! So….sad….

At that rate…those socks will take years to finish.
So, today the kids woke up early. They haven’t been feeling well and none of us got a good night’s sleep. They were super cranky and nothing seemed to make them happy. They kept telling me they wanted to watch the shrinky dinks we made last night. They love to sit on the kitchen floor with me and watch their drawings get all curly and small. They weren’t even done with breakfast when the oven was preheated.
The Shrunken Head Collection

The Shrunken Head Collection

My daughter loves to draw faces, so we are calling this the “Shrunken Head Collection”. I made sure to punch holes in them so I can make them into stitch markers to use with my knitting projects. I also got to test out the shrinky dinks to make other stitch markers. I have my paisleys, and I made a set of letters I haven’t baked yet. The letters will be for using with the patterns in Cat Bordhi‘s New Pathways for Sock Knitters. I want to try out the Coriolis Socks!
