Productivity

Showing appreciation for imaginary friends.

Who would’ve thought that a video game would get me to start being productive?

My husband has known I’ve been paralyzed lately. I have had no desire to do anything at all. In an attempt to try and get me out of my funk, he ordered me a Nintendo 3DS XL with Animal Crossing loaded onto it.

A whole new world has opened up for me.

I knew it was going to be delivered yesterday. I got up early, had breakfast and got myself put together. I went grocery shopping…threw together some dinner in the crock pot as well as putting together a salad. I decided to take one of my shawls and block it. I did some cleaning. I even emailed a few friends to set up a lunch.

Yes people, as ridiculous as it sounds, I had a reason to get stuff done…and that reason was a VIDEO GAME.

Around 3 p.m. the UPS guy showed up with my package. I thanked him excitedly and ripped that box open. Crap. I forgot I had to charge it. I took that time to wind three balls of yarn for a new shawl and pick the twins up from summer camp.

Then we got home and things got REAL. An evening of me and both kids sprawled out on the floor watching as I caught fireflies, talked to townspeople and was stung by bees multiple times. I played that thing until the battery had no more juice. I plugged it in to charge and cast on a brand new shawl.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some knitting to do while I wait for Nook’s Real Estate office to open…

And today I play the role of…

Over achiever. Or maybe it’s just the caffeine?

Even my friends are finding my productivity slightly annoying...

Even my friends are finding my productivity slightly annoying…

It’s sometime in the wee hours of the morning and I have been running non-stop since 8am. I’m not even particularly tired right this second (check on me again in 30 minutes when the inevitable crash happens).

I’m eager to get stuff finished. See, once again I’ve been keeping to myself, busily toiling away at secret things. It’s all very intriguing, I’m sure. ::Insert eye roll here.:: Many of my friends haven’t seen me in awhile, but I’ll be emerging soon. I’m heading to Stitches West this Friday!

Among the many things I have been working on are patterns. As a matter of fact, I typed up two more designs today and they are ready for testing!

Of course, I have one more pattern I’d like to get written and typed before Friday, but I have a paying thing I need to finish first. The race is on to see how much I can get done. I will need to set aside at least 5 minutes to pack for this weekend.

It doesn't look like much, but trust me when I say there is major multitasking happening here.

Thinking about how I work…

Thursday, November 1st, 2012 | blah blah blah, Random Craftiness, sewing | No Comments

While my parents have been here visiting, I’ve been getting a lot done. Unfortunately, for me, those things getting done have nothing to do with any of my creative endeavors.

Have I looked at closets? Did I finally buy some pants? Yup.

Have I blogged about anything I’ve been doing this week? Nope, not really. Have I done any knitting or crocheting? Very little.

The problem is that my mom’s idea of productivity involves organizing the entire house and has very little to do with me working on my projects. Plus, honestly, there is something about my parents being here that seriously inflames my ADD.

I have, many times, been in the middle of something to have my mom ask me about something completely unrelated to what I was doing. Then I am left sitting here asking myself “What was it I was planning on doing again?”

The one thing I do realize about all of this is that I really don’t have a proper workspace. Of course, I won’t have a proper workspace for quite some time, but maybe it is good for me to think about how I can make myself more productive despite not having a spot to call my own.

A few nights back I decided to turn on the camera and record my daughter and I working on my corset. Luckily it was a project that didn’t require much thought, but can you imagine what this would be like if I were working on something that required any kind of concentration? Welcome to my life…
