Comic Con Crazy

Thursday, July 18th, 2013 | blah blah blah, FO's, Geekery, knitting, shawl | No Comments

I was sitting here having some sort of an existential crisis, like one does when enjoying their lunch of chicken nuggets and toaster strudel, when it occurred to me that I hadn’t shown anyone my sample project. As a matter of fact, I had a small panicky moment where I had actually forgotten I had taken any pictures of it before sending it off to it’s new home. I think the Comic Con Crazy has finally gotten to me. My brain is preoccupied with figuring out what outfits to pack and organizing the lists of things I need to look for while I’m there.

Here it is! Isn’t it purty?

I’m rethinking that whole not taking knitting with me to San Diego thing. Not that I would knit on the con floor (because I need one more thing that screams “I’m a geek!”), but if I need to decompress back in the hotel room, it might be a good idea to have it. Comic Con can be a little bit stressful.

Honestly, it might be the idea that I could go the entire weekend without crafting that is making me a little twitchy.

Meet my Crochet Capybara…

Thursday, March 21st, 2013 | Amigurumi, crochet, Pattern, Toys | No Comments

I was talking about losing my knitting mojo yesterday, so I decided to try and get productive in other ways! I mean, there is plenty I can be doing besides knitting, right?

Here he is!

I’ve done it! I’ve finally posted my first ever pattern to Ravelry! The Crochet Capybara!

I am pretty darn excited to finally have this little guy out there. He’s been hiding out for months! It’s an easy-peasy pattern, so definitely check it out.

I have more patterns in the pipeline…I hope to get them out into the universe soon!

And today I play the role of…

Over achiever. Or maybe it’s just the caffeine?

Even my friends are finding my productivity slightly annoying...

Even my friends are finding my productivity slightly annoying…

It’s sometime in the wee hours of the morning and I have been running non-stop since 8am. I’m not even particularly tired right this second (check on me again in 30 minutes when the inevitable crash happens).

I’m eager to get stuff finished. See, once again I’ve been keeping to myself, busily toiling away at secret things. It’s all very intriguing, I’m sure. ::Insert eye roll here.:: Many of my friends haven’t seen me in awhile, but I’ll be emerging soon. I’m heading to Stitches West this Friday!

Among the many things I have been working on are patterns. As a matter of fact, I typed up two more designs today and they are ready for testing!

Of course, I have one more pattern I’d like to get written and typed before Friday, but I have a paying thing I need to finish first. The race is on to see how much I can get done. I will need to set aside at least 5 minutes to pack for this weekend.

It doesn't look like much, but trust me when I say there is major multitasking happening here.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Thursday, February 14th, 2013 | Amigurumi, crafts, crochet, FO's, Holiday, Test | No Comments

I am a sucker for that love stuff. The more awkward the better.

But for this Valentine’s Day, I am spending the majority of my time working on some “self love”. Now, before you start going all “Stacy is getting a little too personal on her blog”, let me explain.

I am my own worst critic. I have problems really being in love with the things I create. I have always thought “If this comes easy to me, surely everyone must be able to do it. Why should I try and sell the things I make when everyone else can just as easily make it themselves?” I have struggled with these thoughts since I started crafting…and I still do.

But for the first time…probably ever…I really love what I am doing.

Ya know when you pick up something you made to look at it, and you are so so pleased about how it turned out that you actually squeal? I have done that. A lot. And with every squeal…or “Wook at my cute wittle baby!”…I stop for a moment and think “Maybe someone else might like this too.”

So, in honor of Valentine’s Day, I am going to practice “self love” by spending the day working on the things I love. I’ve started shooting off copies of my first (actually typed) pattern to testers. I am ready for feedback…and I hope that people find that they love them as much as I do.

In honor of Valentines Day, I am sending my first completed pattern out for testing. #crochet #amigurumi #design

My first (typed) pattern. There will more to come!

If any of my readers would be interested in testing patterns, please let me know! You can email me at admin AT knithitsthefan DOT com.

I have something to say!

Monday, February 11th, 2013 | blah blah blah, FO's, hats, knitting, Ravelry, stash busting | No Comments

One of the patterns I test knit recently just went live on Ravelry. I can actually talk about it. Yesssss!

This is the Lutine Cap by Alex Tinsley. It is a cute little cap that is super easy to knit up. Of course, I love Alex’s patterns, so when she put the call out for test knitters, I jumped at the chance.

Lutine Cap

On Ravelry I call it “Hat a l’orange”.

The pattern calls for fingering weight yarn held doubled. I used some Koigu KPPPM that was lying around in my stash.

Lutine Cap

This might be the first project I’ve done with bobbles.

I’ve been wearing it with the flaps in the back, but they can be worn in the front or on the side.

Of course, trying to take pictures of your own head while not looking at the camera is super easy, right? I always seem to get some interesting gems while attempting to take photos of myself. This is just the latest one…

I’m blue!

I’m calling this “My Blue Period”, which is appropriate since I had my hairdresser pop some blue into my hair yesterday.
