Mystery Lace KAL

A long-awaited FO…

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011 | FO's, KAL, knitting, start to finish | No Comments

Wow, I feel like I’ve had my ass handed to me.

It’s been a seriously busy time around my place. The rains have come and the roof still leaks. Visitors in and out of the house….did I mention my mother-in-law is still in town? All of this has taken up some of my crafting time, but luckily not all of it. I still have lunch time at work to get some things done….and the evenings here and there.

I decided to take the weekend to go full tilt on getting at least *something* done.

The Phoenix and The Carpet...

::breathes a sign of relief::

The Phoenix and the Carpet KAL is finally complete for me…well, at least when it comes to the needles. This bad boy still needs to be blocked….which I may wait to do. I still have plenty of boxes left to try and unpack and many bags of things going to the local Goodwill. Floor space is temporarily at a premium.

Clue 6 is complete!

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011 | blah blah blah, KAL, UFO's | 1 Comment

I’m still two weeks behind. I had better try and catch up.

My only comfort is knowing that Michelle is behind with hers too. It might be a real KAL for the two of us after all…

Dueling Projects!

I was incredibly lucky to get to the shop early this past week. Everyone had left work early for the holiday weekend, so I decided to get out of there too.

I met up with Mal at the shop, determined to spend my time catching up on my personal projects because I had not really devoted any time to them recently. Don’t get me wrong, I am seriously determined to get some charity projects done, but I have a few things just sitting here and I was feeling like I was losing some momentum.

I started knitting on my Mountain View Cardigan. Oh yeah….*that sweater*…it’s still around. One of these days, I might even finish it. For right now, baby steps. It’s not complete, but I did finish the back of it.

While I worked, Mal did her felting thing…

I brought my Phoenix and the Carpet project but I hadn’t planned on working on it. Then Michelle showed up and I couldn’t resist taking the opportunity to snap a couple of pics of our dueling KAL projects! We’re both a little behind on our clues…

My distractions are never ending…

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011 | blah blah blah, charity, crochet, KAL, knitting, UFO's | No Comments

I dunno kids, despite my best efforts, I am finding it difficult to maintain my knitting mojo. I am still a clue and a half behind in my Mystery Lace KAL and still plugging away on my Mountain View Sweater (yes, it isn’t in hibernation just yet). Just 2 ½ more inches to knit on the back of THAT sucker. Oh, but then I have to finish the front….oh, and the sleeves.

The problem is that I haven’t been doing much knitting on my lunch hour. I am spending a lot of time with my friends catching up on Battlestar Galactica and my new favorite show, Misfits. I just haven’t been much in the mood to do anything but escape in my brain at those particular moments when I have time to do so.

Every once in a while I will bring my knitting in there with me to watch stuff, but lately, not so much.

I am also starting the mad scramble to get a Halloween costume ready. My sewing machine is toast though. I tried mending a pair of pants for a co-worker and *kablooey*. I need to find myself a good sewing machine repair place. I’ll talk more costume nonsense later.

I have been working mostly on my charity stuff. The Blanketeers blanket is getting bigger and bigger with more squares coming in!

I also am working on my Op Art charity blanket. I am so close to being done, I can almost taste it. Those purl rows take FOREVER though.

Still going...

But I'm not sure how big it is yet...

Since it is being knit in the round, I really have no idea how big this blanket actually is right now. I could make a guess, but I figured I would be safe if I just knit until I ran out of yarn.

Well, things don’t always go smoothly.

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011 | blah blah blah, KAL | No Comments

It might have been from sleeping funny. Or maybe it was doing that thing when you hold the phone between your shoulder and your ear while you are trying to multitask (and maybe chop veggies for soup). Either way, I really jacked myself up this time.

As if it wasn’t bad enough having a huge knot in my back, I couldn’t get my kids to walk on it…and then when I asked my husband to help…I think he made it worse. On a side note, I think I may understand what having an eyeball pop out of socket might feel like now.

It might just be time to get a massage.

I’ll be the first to admit, when it comes to posture, mine is the worst. It’s especially bad when I am knitting or spinning. I have some really bad habits. I have a tendency to spend my days hunched over my work. It’s really not good for me.

Clue 5

Clue 5

In the meantime, I am trying to improve and I actually have had a little time in the evening to play catch up on my KAL. Clue 5 is done, a color change has started, and I am already into Clue 6.

Clue 5

My Progress so far.

I am hoping to get caught up soon, tomorrow night is “new clue” night…or maybe I should just embrace the fact that I am going to be a week behind in finishing. Either way, I know it will get done. I kinda feel like I need an finished object to materialize soon so I don’t get that “I’m drowning in unfinished projects” feeling.

Waiting to gain momentum…

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 | KAL | 1 Comment

I was really hoping to get more done this week, but alas, it was not meant to be. I am making progress, but I feel like I am playing catch-up. I don’t have any real deadlines to worry about, but I am week behind the rest of the folks in the mystery lace knit-a-long. Part of it is because I just haven’t really been feeling like knitting…and so I have been spending my time playing video games and catching up on some of the stuff I watch on hulu. It is also the kids first week back to school and I have been making sure they have everything they need in the evenings before bed…which leaves me with little time to spare for working on stuff.

Last night, however, I decided to buckle down and work on some knitting. Low and behold, I finished Clue 4!

Clue 4 completed

Clue 4 Close-up...all fancy-like.

Clues 1-4.

Tonight after I get the kids fed and headed to bed, I am going to go meet up with my girl Ashley so we can spend some time together before she leaves town. I am ready to get my knit on and tackle Clue 5…especially since Clue 6 should be released tomorrow night!

Wow, has it been a week?

Monday, August 8th, 2011 | blah blah blah, KAL, start to finish | No Comments

I feel like it has been forever since I have signed onto my blog. It’s been all kinds of busy at my place lately and will be busier this next week.

Yup kids, I am going on VACATION!

I think it is definitely needed. I doubt I will get much knitting done. I do intend to spend some time in the sun though.

So, to get caught up on the knitting project tally…

The Unique Sheep Mystery Lace KAL: I have blown through Clue 3 and am about halfway through Clue 4. Here is what it looked like at the end of Clue 3…

Clue 3

Clue 3 completed.

I hope to take some extra pictures of it…I mean, I could always blog from where ever I am. I just changed colors in Clue 4 and started ball 3 of 6. It’s where the purple starts creeping in…

Done with Clue 3

I just LOVE those little red beads.

I also have done a little bit of work on my Op Art Blanket, but I haven’t taken any photos of it. Oh well…I will soon enough. I have it with me and I plan on working on it a little…maybe even tonight as I sit at LAX.

I dunno, we’ll see how I feel…

Clue 2 is done!

I made it through another week and found myself landing at the shop for some more Friday Night hi-jinx. This past Friday I got to show off my latest finished clue for The Phoenix and The Carpet Mystery Lace KAL.

Clue 2

Clue 2 Complete!

Of course, the night wouldn’t be complete with additional craziness. This week, Sheridan showed us one of her latest creations…Mistress Kate.

Almost done with Clue 2!

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011 | KAL | No Comments

Last night I was pretty beat. I had the opportunity to go out and hang at a local Starbucks with my friend Ashley, but I was so tired I wasn’t going to make it there.  I still feel like I am playing catch up on things in general…not just with my knitting projects…not that that’s something new. I always feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to get my knitting projects done.

The kids were up late, so I got a late start. I just sat in my chair and worked on Clue 2 of The Phoenix and The Carpet while I sat and watched TV.

I’m only about halfway through the clue. Hopefully I will finish tonight because I should be getting Clue 3 sometime tomorrow night.

Last night's progress on clue 2

Halfway through Clue 2. I've already started the color change.

The Phoenix and The Carpet…Clue 1

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011 | KAL, UFO's | No Comments

So, having Friday off really jump started my knitting! I spent the weekend working on Clue 1 of The Phoenix and The Carpet.

Most of the way through Clue 1.

Sometime Sunday afternoon I finished the clue. It looks great so far!

The finished clue.

I am really liking the whole adding of beads to my knitting thing. The little red beads are giving it that extra spark that might be missing otherwise. It really is looking like a faded carpet. I can’t wait to see how the color changes turn out, but that will start sometime during Clue 2.

Loving those little red beads!

Clue 2 should be arriving sometime Friday, just in time for…Comic Con? Yeah, who am I kidding? There will be no knitting happening at Comic Con. Well, maybe just a little in the car on the way to and from San Diego…
