A very Hannibal Day…

Sunday, June 1st, 2014 | Amigurumi, blah blah blah, crafts, FO's, Geekery, knitting, Toys | 1 Comment

I swear my life is all about Fandom and Fiber Art lately. I just finished a type of fan art project (more on that later)…I’ve been asked to be in a themed art show (more on that later too)…and then out of the blue, I start getting a barrage of texts.

Turns out a few of my Fannibal friends went to an Emmy screening of Hannibal (Episode 213:Mizumono) last week in Hollywood. They didn’t get in, but they had a lot of fun outside the event.  Remember this?

The Hannibal Lecter Playset.

Well, my friend Ashley decided to take it with her to the Hannibal Screening.

And when my phone blew up…these were the pictures I was receiving…

Mimi Mochi Will Graham and the real Will Graham.

Alana Bloom with Mini Mochi Alana Bloom.

Ash with Hugh Dancy. Apparently, Bryan Fuller took this picture for her.

Caroline Dhavernas with Ash.

She also told me that Bryan Fuller got to see all 4 of them. Kinda cool!

Celebrating Christmas…pageant style.

Tuesday, January 28th, 2014 | crafts, FO's, Holiday, Miscellaneous | No Comments

Welcome to the Christmas Pageant!

If you are someone who knows me, or has been a reader of my blog for awhile, you probably know that I celebrate my Birthday pageant style. Well, it looks like I am celebrating Christmas pageant style too! Essentially, Christmas is just going to bleed into my birthday this year.

This mostly has to do with the fact that my knit group has postponed Crafty Christmas until we go to Stitches West, which is the weekend after my birthday. Now, this is totally fine for me, but I imagine it might be annoying to some of them as it is creating a knitting nightmare…a knitted gift bottle neck of epic proportions. I know this because I talk to Courtney, who every year is the most ambitious of us.

So, since we are in a spoiler free zone, you only get to see completed projects that have been gifted or are non-gift items. It doesn’t give me much to choose from as far as photo posting. Be prepared for another month of small random craft projects….no really….

For now, enjoy the Christmas Whisps I gifted them last year. They even decorated them for the holiday season!

David’s had blinking lights!

…And Courtney’s…complete with stitch markers.

Met my Christmas deadline!

Friday, December 27th, 2013 | blah blah blah, FO's, hats, Holiday, knitting, stash busting | 1 Comment

Hats for the twins!

Guess what, everybody? I met my first (of many) holiday deadlines!

My first deadline was to have hats knit up for the kids in time for Christmas. I whipped through my son’s hat with no problem. I was winging it and no real pattern means it was super speedy. My daughter’s hat was a little bit more time consuming. It’s an easy pattern, sure, but I had just finished a hat and was feeling a little bit of Christmas burn out. I was really ready to move on to something else. I knew I had more projects to get done, so my mind was elsewhere.

I kept plugging along though and I finally got it done. I squeaked in at the last minute, so both hats were done by Christmas Eve and ready on Christmas morning when they opened their presents!

On to the next deadline!!

I’m a lean, mean, craftin’ machine!

Thursday, December 12th, 2013 | blah blah blah, cowl, crafts, crochet, Holiday, knitting, stash busting | No Comments

I had said this represented half of the yarn I need for the holidays…but I was wrong. It’s only about a third.

I am rocketing through my holiday crafting like nobody’s business! I am making gifts for just about everyone this year. I made sure that I set clear deadlines for myself so I will know when certain things need to be done. First things first…teacher gifts!

A Casu Cowl for one of the school teachers and snowflakes for the teachers at daycare.

Sitting outside knitting another teacher cowl. This time it’s the Honey Cowl…which looks great in variegated yarn.

I am eager to clear out the stash. Stitches is coming up and I need to make room for more yarn! The majority of the crafting this Christmas is coming from stash…and when I say majority…I mean pretty much exclusively (cough cough withtheexceptionoftwoskeins cough cough). This means NO YARN SHOPPING. Can you believe it? Yeah…I can’t either.

One more Christmas project to finish…

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012 | blah blah blah, Holiday | No Comments

If you thought I was done, you are sorely mistaken! I had one more set of mitts to complete. I wanted to give something special to my hairdresser. So much for making it by Christmas….it was more of a “Happy New Year” gift.

How I love knitting in the park!

Of course I realized that this is the only photo I took of this project. I am kind of kicking myself for that. Oh well, I do know what Mitt Envy looks like finished since I made so many of them. These turned out lovely though!

What I did on Christmas Vacation…Part 4

Saturday, January 7th, 2012 | At the office, Holiday | No Comments

I wasn’t done yet! I still had a promise to keep to the twins!

I have been walking a lot lately to try and get in shape, and most of the time, the kids join me. They had asked me to make them fingerless mitts after seeing me knit some for just about everyone else I know. It’s been chilly in the evenings and they wanted to wear them when we go out for our walks.

I was knitting nearly every day at lunch...

The kids love them!

This pattern was easy peasy, and I knocked them out in no time.

What I did on Christmas Vacation…Part 3

Friday, January 6th, 2012 | At the office, Holiday, socks | No Comments

Okay, by now Christmas was officially over and I needed to still finish the left over items that I hadn’t gotten done pre-holiday. Luckily for me, my family understands that knitters operate on a different timeline. I had promised my kids some fingerless mitts…and I still had those socks to finish!

It was a dead week at work. No one was in (except for me and a couple of others). The people that did show up ended up leaving early most days.

My folks were in town and using my car, which meant if I was at work, I was *staying* at work. There was no leaving early for me. Good thing I had projects with me.

Working and *working...

Yup! I did finally finish them! Now my husband has knitted socks to replace the pair that he wore holes in. I am taking those apart for scrap yarn for the insanity blanket.

It’s all about the recycling!

What I did on Christmas Vacation…Part 2

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012 | Holiday, weaving | No Comments

It was a Merry Christmas indeed! Amazingly enough, I didn’t receive a single knitting/yarn related gift. Okay, maybe that is not entirely true…my mom did renew my Interweave Knits subscription (which I haven’t received yet).

I did get Santa to do his part in passing on the fiber addiction to my daughter…

She loves it!

Santa brought her a loom so she could make pot holders for everyone!

Her first potholder!

She really likes it.

I had a few last minute knitted gifts to prepare for the day. I started this thing I call the “prize box”. I figure I could knit the hell outta my stash and for those things that I don’t need to keep, I can throw in the “prize box” and if I need a gift or something….I can whip out something I made. It might just make next Christmas easier for me. I don’t want to deal with hand cramps or knitting ennui.

What I did on Christmas Vacation…

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012 | blah blah blah, Holiday, socks | No Comments

So I know I have been gone for a little while. So sorry! I was attending to various life things that always seem to get in the way of my blogging. I was working hard behind the scenes to ditch godaddy’s SOPA lovin’ butts and get to a new company ( I was also feeling the pressure to get my Christmas knitting done. I really piled on myself this year without really realizing it until it was too late.

Of course, I did think to myself that I would write about my friend’s projects so I wouldn’t have to write about my own. I spent so much time insulating myself from the rest of the world to get my stuff done, that I didn’t end up seeing very much of my friends.

I was freaking out a few nights before Christmas Eve and decided to bite the bullet and walk up to the local Starbucks to get some Christmas gift knitting done. I was trying so hard to get a pair of socks done for my husband without him knowing…but that was near impossible and I ended up having to tell him about it. I figured the time away from home might help me get more done. I met Mallory up there and we did some crafting…

I made some progress on those socks, but I hadn’t gotten them completed.

It was an interesting night. One woman came and sat with us to ask Mal questions about what it was she was doing…then a local homeless woman showed up with her crochet project and sat with us. Before we knew it, we went from a group of 2 to a group of 4. The homeless woman chatted us up about what we were doing and showed us the tiny blanket she was making for a friend’s pet rat. I wanted to take pictures, but she was really tired and dozed off at the table.

My “extra” time…

Sunday, December 18th, 2011 | blah blah blah, Holiday, knitting | 1 Comment

While the holidays quickly approach, I am trying to spend all my “extra” time working on getting gifts done. I’ve been working on things during TV watching after the kids go to bed, and almost every day at work during lunch. I haven’t spent much time away from the house because there is a lot going on at home right now, but any free moment I get, I try and get in a couple stitches.

However, the closer the holidays get…and the more that pops up at home…the less time I have to work on things. Imagine my surprise when I got an email saying that my Christmas card order for this year would be arriving two weeks later than expected. In a way, it was kind of a relief. No more pressure to get the 100+ Christmas cards out the door before Christmas gets here. Whew! New Year cards instead!
