Wow, time sure does fly at the holidays!

Thanksgiving was small this year. Just me and my husband and our kids. I invited my friend Ashley over because her husband was out of town for work and I don’t think people should be alone during the holidays.

Luckily, my husband loves me a lot and knew I was way too busy to get any actual holiday planning done, so he ordered Thanksgiving dinner this year!

Thumbs up!

Dinner was a success!

After dinner and dessert, Ashley brought out some of her knitting that needed a little TLC. Not too long ago she had a (gasp!)…moth problem, but she also had a shawl that had a burn. Of course, about the time I was going to Google “darning”, the internet took a dump. I had to wing it.

Trying something without my internet safety net.

I think I did a pretty good job.

I was really at a loss as to what to make my hairdresser this year for Christmas. I was running out of time and I couldn’t find anything that I thought she might like that could be executed with such little time available. Most of the cool bug stuff I found was stuff I would have to experiment with (Lacey is really into bugs). I was running out of time and stressing out.

That is when I saw a friend of mine had made a necklace with some yarn she had lying around. There was a free pattern online for it too! Bonus points for ease! It was a perfect addition to the little gift bag I put together for her!

Super Secret Socks

Friday, January 10th, 2014 | blah blah blah, FO's, Holiday, Miscellaneous, socks | No Comments

This morning, as I was getting ready to sit down to breakfast, I walked behind my son to give him a hug as he was filling out his reading chart for school.

Me: So, you’re wearing your special shirt, huh?
T: Yup.
Me: Does it give you super powers?
T: (Nods)
Me: Ya know…I have secret socks that give me super powers.
T: Really?
Me: Yup. Every time I wear them I get super secret super powers. I made them myself. Do you want to see them?
T: Uh huh.
Me: (Whips off my boot and sticks my foot up on the table in front of him.)
T: Do the people you work with know?
Me: Nope. They can’t see them because I’m wearing boots.
T: Yeah! Super secret powers! (High Fives me)

It was seriously cute.

My Christmas Balls Socks… Why didn’t I think to wear them at Christmastime? Oh wait, maybe because it was, like, 80 degrees out.

Forced relaxation…

Monday, January 6th, 2014 | blah blah blah, FO's, hats, Holiday, knitting, stash busting, UGH! | No Comments

Wow, what a hectic year this is shaping up to be! I have been very busy, but it looks like I’m getting a little break coming up soon.

I met up with my knitters on Friday night but I didn’t do any knitting. I think the holidays did me in and, once again, the repetitive motion injury fairy has come to visit. The knitter’s have instructed me to lighten up on the crafting time.

But, how in the world will I survive without my knitting?!? (Insert dramatic flailing here.)

It’s not so bad though. Courtney and I must have been reading each other’s minds because we both think that instead of exchanging Crafty Christmas gifts on Twelfth Night (which was…um…yesterday), that we should exchange them at Stitches West next month! That way we are all together and hopefully that gives everyone enough time to get their projects done.

I’m not worried. I already made the prediction that I would be done first, despite my splint.

While I wait to get back to crafting, presents are starting to be delivered to relatives back home! I haven’t heard from everybody yet, but hopefully I will soon. There is a big snowstorm happening in the midwest right now and my packages are being delivered to some of those areas hit hard by snow and ice. Keep your fingers crossed!

My folks are happy that they are here in Cali where it a lovely 70+ degrees and they have been taunting the folks back home in Michigan with pictures of the two of them wearing shorts and sandals. It means that my Mom hasn’t had the opportunity to wear the hat I knit her for Christmas.

Oh well, maybe she can get some use out of it when she gets home in March.

Met my Christmas deadline!

Friday, December 27th, 2013 | blah blah blah, FO's, hats, Holiday, knitting, stash busting | 1 Comment

Hats for the twins!

Guess what, everybody? I met my first (of many) holiday deadlines!

My first deadline was to have hats knit up for the kids in time for Christmas. I whipped through my son’s hat with no problem. I was winging it and no real pattern means it was super speedy. My daughter’s hat was a little bit more time consuming. It’s an easy pattern, sure, but I had just finished a hat and was feeling a little bit of Christmas burn out. I was really ready to move on to something else. I knew I had more projects to get done, so my mind was elsewhere.

I kept plugging along though and I finally got it done. I squeaked in at the last minute, so both hats were done by Christmas Eve and ready on Christmas morning when they opened their presents!

On to the next deadline!!

The closest thing I get to snow…

Monday, December 23rd, 2013 | At the office, crafts, crochet, FO's, Holiday, Pattern, stash busting, yarn | No Comments

This year, I wanted to give gifts to EVERYONE! That is not an easy feat when you already have a ton of crafting to do. Small projects are ideal.

Presents for my coworkers.

I decided to crochet snowflakes to attach to packages and that people could use as ornaments. The most popular were the bright neon yellow ones that my kids started calling “pee pee snowflakes”. I made those limited edition.

My neon yellow snowflake!

They were a hit!

If you feel like crocheting some, you can find the pattern here!

I’m a lean, mean, craftin’ machine!

Thursday, December 12th, 2013 | blah blah blah, cowl, crafts, crochet, Holiday, knitting, stash busting | No Comments

I had said this represented half of the yarn I need for the holidays…but I was wrong. It’s only about a third.

I am rocketing through my holiday crafting like nobody’s business! I am making gifts for just about everyone this year. I made sure that I set clear deadlines for myself so I will know when certain things need to be done. First things first…teacher gifts!

A Casu Cowl for one of the school teachers and snowflakes for the teachers at daycare.

Sitting outside knitting another teacher cowl. This time it’s the Honey Cowl…which looks great in variegated yarn.

I am eager to clear out the stash. Stitches is coming up and I need to make room for more yarn! The majority of the crafting this Christmas is coming from stash…and when I say majority…I mean pretty much exclusively (cough cough withtheexceptionoftwoskeins cough cough). This means NO YARN SHOPPING. Can you believe it? Yeah…I can’t either.

Getting ready for the Christmas rush…

Monday, December 2nd, 2013 | blah blah blah, FO's, Holiday, Miscellaneous | No Comments

Thanksgiving weekend means putting up Christmas decorations…it also means I will inevitably freak out that there isn’t enough time to get all of my Christmas presents finished.

It’s crunch time folks…get ready for me to go full-on manic crafter!

I finished two projects this weekend. If I had been brave enough to go out in search of buttons, it would have been four. They are gifts though, so no peeking!

I also spent most of last evening weaving in ends on the projects from my “finishing pile”. I blew through most of it when my eyeballs weren’t glued to the television during The Walking Dead. More room for Christmas presents that will need finishing touches!

The Finishing Pile is now much smaller…
