Tassels!

Saturday, January 11th, 2014 | blah blah blah, FO's, Holiday, knitting, Miscellaneous, Pattern | No Comments

I was really at a loss as to what to make my hairdresser this year for Christmas. I was running out of time and I couldn’t find anything that I thought she might like that could be executed with such little time available. Most of the cool bug stuff I found was stuff I would have to experiment with (Lacey is really into bugs). I was running out of time and stressing out.

That is when I saw a friend of mine had made a necklace with some yarn she had lying around. There was a free pattern online for it too! Bonus points for ease! It was a perfect addition to the little gift bag I put together for her!

Trying something new…

I’ve been a busy bee! Between the new job and the new knit group, I haven’t had much time to get stuff done. However, I’ve decided that, if I have a free moment, I should get down to business on making things for Christmas.

Luckily, I took Lexi’s Tunisian Crochet class at CogKNITive again this year. I seriously needed the refresher! I had started a baby blanket way back for Blanketeers, but promptly forgot what I was doing and had stowed it in the back of my minivan.

Lexi had been wearing something she designed in tunisian crochet, and it was lovely. I bought her pattern and now I am practicing. Of course I can’t give you too many details…because, well, Christmas.

This decided it didn’t want to be for it’s intended recipient, so I started a new one.

I have nothin’ but time.

All of my friends know that I am bored. Don’t get me wrong…I do a lot during my days. I knit, spin, do an occasional chore…I send out my resume to anyone that will take it. Ya know, the important stuff.

I need something else though. A reason to think. Maybe a little challenge here and there.

A friend asked me to make some baby items for a friend of his that is expecting. So I found a booties pattern in Spanish and decided to knit it. Even though I don’t speak any Spanish.

Taking a Spanish tutorial an translating it into English.

And...done!

And...done!

Luckily, my friend let me take control of choosing colors. I am a big fan of not using pastel colors for babies. I think this set turned out pretty good.

Starting is the hardest part…

Thursday, September 6th, 2012 | blah blah blah, FO's, shawl | No Comments

You would think as a person who is currently spending a lot of time at home, I would have an easier time starting things. I think that I have reverse start-itis…but of the blog variety.

The problem is that I am terribly distracted. It is a vicious cycle that seems to take place in my brain. It’s a constant barrage of ideas…some are mine, some belong to others and I am just playing with them for now. It’s mixed up in a bowl full of parenting things, the whole “what is my purpose on this planet?” garbage, my relationships with others, etc.

So, I finally sit down…right here…in front of my computer…and everything seems to escape me. Instead of talking about my projects, I’m thinking “It’s too bright in here” and “I hope the work men stop drilling soon” and “I feel sick from stress and eating that entire bar of fudge”.

So pardon me for being all airy fairy…or for not staying on topic. This is a knitting blog, but my hobbies are my version of cheap therapy so I might just go off on tangents from time to time. It’s just that I hate being unemployed despite everyone telling me I should be enjoying it…and I am bored and have no one to talk to except for the walls and occasionally my television while I sit here and try to use The Force to get my socks to knit themselves.

In the meantime…look at this.

Invisibility Shawl

My Shawl of Invisibility

Yes, It’s a pattern from Charmed Knits (Potter Nerds, FTW). I made it to wear to my cousin’s wedding in Michigan in July. It was the only thing I could think of that would go with the colors in my dress. Of course, it was too hot and muggy to actually wear it. I still haven’t worn it. I figure when I find a reason to dress up again, I’ll give it a go.

My brother and I.

And just in case you wondered, here I am in that dress. I know some people have commented that it looks red, but I will have you know it is actually a tangerine color…and not one that is easy to match, for sure. That’s my brother…yeah, I know, we don’t even look related.

For the wedding, I had knit a gift as well. I made a little rectangular stole for my cousin. I knit it in some purpley colored yarn and it turned out nice. I’m not sure I have a photo of it anywhere that is easily accessible (because I have been slackin’), so you will have to trust me on this. The funny thing is that my mom called me a few weeks back and commented on how ‘everyone thought the table runner was lovely’. I started laughing hysterically and explained to my mom what the gift actually was. I told her I didn’t care if she used it as a shawl or table runner, as long as she liked it.
