Celebrating Christmas…pageant style.

Welcome to the Christmas Pageant!

If you are someone who knows me, or has been a reader of my blog for awhile, you probably know that I celebrate my Birthday pageant style. Well, it looks like I am celebrating Christmas pageant style too! Essentially, Christmas is just going to bleed into my birthday this year.

This mostly has to do with the fact that my knit group has postponed Crafty Christmas until we go to Stitches West, which is the weekend after my birthday. Now, this is totally fine for me, but I imagine it might be annoying to some of them as it is creating a knitting nightmare…a knitted gift bottle neck of epic proportions. I know this because I talk to Courtney, who every year is the most ambitious of us.

So, since we are in a spoiler free zone, you only get to see completed projects that have been gifted or are non-gift items. It doesn’t give me much to choose from as far as photo posting. Be prepared for another month of small random craft projects….no really….

For now, enjoy the Christmas Whisps I gifted them last year. They even decorated them for the holiday season!

Met my Christmas deadline!

Friday, December 27th, 2013 | blah blah blah, FO's, hats, Holiday, knitting, stash busting | 1 Comment

Hats for the twins!

Guess what, everybody? I met my first (of many) holiday deadlines!

My first deadline was to have hats knit up for the kids in time for Christmas. I whipped through my son’s hat with no problem. I was winging it and no real pattern means it was super speedy. My daughter’s hat was a little bit more time consuming. It’s an easy pattern, sure, but I had just finished a hat and was feeling a little bit of Christmas burn out. I was really ready to move on to something else. I knew I had more projects to get done, so my mind was elsewhere.

I kept plugging along though and I finally got it done. I squeaked in at the last minute, so both hats were done by Christmas Eve and ready on Christmas morning when they opened their presents!

On to the next deadline!!

The closest thing I get to snow…

This year, I wanted to give gifts to EVERYONE! That is not an easy feat when you already have a ton of crafting to do. Small projects are ideal.

Presents for my coworkers.

I decided to crochet snowflakes to attach to packages and that people could use as ornaments. The most popular were the bright neon yellow ones that my kids started calling “pee pee snowflakes”. I made those limited edition.

They were a hit!

T’was the week before Christmas…

Friday, December 20th, 2013 | blah blah blah, cowl, crochet, Holiday, KIP, knitting, UFO's, WIP | No Comments

I’m crafting in every spare moment of the day. I mean this…no joke. I eat, sleep, and breathe Christmas yarn goodness. I’m pretty tired, but I am no where near being done.

I knit at sporting events…

As if I wasn’t putting enough pressure on myself, I got the teacher’s gifts completed and sent off… without taking photos of the finished projects. Doh!

I knit at brunch with my non-knitter friends…despite their teasing.

I’m a lean, mean, craftin’ machine!

Thursday, December 12th, 2013 | blah blah blah, cowl, crafts, crochet, Holiday, knitting, stash busting | No Comments

I had said this represented half of the yarn I need for the holidays…but I was wrong. It’s only about a third.

I am rocketing through my holiday crafting like nobody’s business! I am making gifts for just about everyone this year. I made sure that I set clear deadlines for myself so I will know when certain things need to be done. First things first…teacher gifts!

A Casu Cowl for one of the school teachers and snowflakes for the teachers at daycare.

Sitting outside knitting another teacher cowl. This time it’s the Honey Cowl…which looks great in variegated yarn.

I am eager to clear out the stash. Stitches is coming up and I need to make room for more yarn! The majority of the crafting this Christmas is coming from stash…and when I say majority…I mean pretty much exclusively (cough cough withtheexceptionoftwoskeins cough cough). This means NO YARN SHOPPING. Can you believe it? Yeah…I can’t either.

Vlog crazy – Part 6, A Very Courtney Christmas

I know, it’s the middle of January, but our group wouldn’t be our group if we didn’t do things a little “off”.

This is the portion of the evening when Courtney plays Santa and tells us about having to clean up “herpes”, or what some of you lay people might call “glitter”.

Also, I started thinking that I was sounding like Randy from A Christmas Story at some point. “Han Solo Soap? Oh boy, that’s mine!”

In our defense, we were a little tipsy at this point.

Holiday Madness!

Saturday, December 29th, 2012 | blah blah blah, cowl, FO's, Holiday, knitting, shawl | No Comments

I was determined.

Sometimes the holidays will do that to you. You have an excuse to set hard and fast deadlines to finish things that probably don’t HAVE to be finished…but the holiday is upon you, so you do it anyway.

For me, I had finished all of my Christmas crafting (even the things that weren’t being gifted until early January) and I started to get the itch. The itch that screams at you “Cast on ALL THE THINGS!” So I had a discussion with myself.

“Stacy, it’s Christmas! You have 3 projects in hibernation and a shawl that has pretty much kicked your brain in it’s ass. What the hell?”

“But there is so much stash yarn to knit! You don’t know when your knitters want to cast on the Celestarium…and surely you need some mindless, easy knitting to shove in your purse. Come on’…you know you wanna…”

As you can see, it’s easy to talk me into things. My one stipulation was that I had to finish something first. Hell, this Christmas the boys made an executive decision that we were having pizza for dinner…so the way I see it… I had plenty of time on my hands that I would have spent preparing a Christmas feast that now could be devoted to cuddling with the kids and knitting my damn brains out.

So I did.

I can't feel my hands, but that's okay...cause I pwned this!

I can’t feel my hands, but that’s okay…cause I pwned this!

11 p.m. Christmas Day, I finished. Hooray!

And almost immediately I dove in the stash and when I came up for air, I was clutching this:

Lorna’s Laces Douglas Fir and some Araucania.

They told me that they want to be a Howlcat…and they will be.

Christmas crafting in full effect!

Friday, December 21st, 2012 | blah blah blah, crafts, FO's, Holiday | No Comments

Christmas is coming…

I have been in full-on Christmas Elf mode. I have been crafting like crazy…and as afraid as I am to say this out loud… I think I may actually be done. Of course, I’ve been stuck at home the last three days, so it wasn’t like I couldn’t just knock that stuff out.

You can get plenty done when you are home with a sick kid…who then gets you sick.

Cuddly germs.

I know you’ve seen the Penguin Guard…

We also have elves and felt hearts.

And some Christmas trees.

These are but a few of the mass amounts of *things* I have been making while sitting here feeling miserable. I can’t show you all of them, obviously, but once I’m able to get everything to their new homes, I’ll post more.
