Bindi’s Path

Hey Everyone!

While I am off being busy with work and kids and life, I thought I would take this quick opportunity to give my friend a well deserved signal boost.

My friend Karen is fabulous knitter/designer/animal lover/human being who designed a pattern to help out our local animal shelter. Check out her press release below…

Paw-Print Knitting Pattern Based on Real Life Rescued Cat

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 15, 2014) Karen Eckhoff has released “Bindi’s Path”, a scarf, stole and cowl pattern set with two-way wavy paw prints reminiscent of her epileptic cat Bindi’s wobbly path through life. Diagnosed with Idiopathic Epilepsy, Bindi was rescued by the Volunteers of the Burbank Animal Shelter and put up for adoption. Given 50/50 odds of living to her first birthday, in 2014, Bindi turned ten. “Bindi’s Path” is a tribute to her tenacious attitude and sweet disposition. The pattern is available at 100% of the profits from its sale will go directly to the Volunteers of the Burbank Animal Shelter (, the organization that saved her life.

Says Eckhoff, “Bindi arrived at the Burbank, CA animal shelter as a six week-old feral stray, having seizures, flea-infested, blind, deaf, and missing a claw. Instead of putting her to sleep, the volunteers took her to the vet and put her up for adoption. Bindi has residual brain damage but has regained her vision and hearing. She is wobbly and has frequent “gravity breaks”, but her seizures are well-regulated with medication. She doesn’t meow or purr, but instead growls. She is quite a little character, and I love her dearly. Though she sometimes struggles, I wouldn’t change a thing about Bindi. She’s perfect as she is. I decided to combine my love of cats and my passion for knitting in order to not only celebrate Bindi’s life, but to give back to the very shelter that gave me so much when they allowed me to adopt her.”

Starting Round 2…

…of Blanketeer Blankets!

Progress after week 1.

Starting a baby blanket...

At the beginning of this month, we started ramping up our Blanketeers meetings. We are now meeting once a week as opposed to every other, and now that we have more people in the building, interest is building.

I started another group blanket and also another individual blanket. I was looking for an excuse to buy a set of Tunsian crochet hooks from the UK. Over there, KnitPro makes a set that are compatible with Knit Picks needle sets (of which I own two).

My new Tunisian Crochet hook set...

So I started another baby blanket that I can work on here and there between stitching together the next Blanketeer Blanket!

What I do when I go to the salon…

Sunday, October 16th, 2011 | charity, crochet, KIP | No Comments

Lately, when I go to get my hair done, I have been bringing my knitting and crochet with me. Just portable projects…nothing major. Just something to do when I wait for my color to process.

This last time it was Blanketeers squares!!

Better than reading a magazine...

It’s kinda fun to take this stuff out at the salon. I go to this great place where the girls are edgy and tattooed and I absolutely love it when they come up and ask me what I am doing.

Blankie Visitation

Friday, September 16th, 2011 | At the office, charity, crochet, Fiber Rock Stars, FO's | No Comments

Ok, so I couldn’t just send off our first completed blanket without getting together with the Blanketeers group to show it to them in person!!

How exciting!

I am not sure what kind of face I was trying to make at the camera right here...

Checking it out.

It was pretty cool. We all had lunch together and all kinds of folks stopped by to ask about the blanket and check it out! I am going to try and get over there more often to crochet squares with them!

Busy, busy

Thursday, September 15th, 2011 | blah blah blah, charity, crochet | No Comments

Well, I have been a busy bee lately. So busy, in fact, that I have neglected my blog a little. I fudged a post or two to make it look like I was around ::winky face::

Charity projects are being completed at record speed. The Blanketeers and I have completed our very first blanket! It’s looking great and I think everyone is pleased. I am hoping to get some completed pictures of it when I head over to our other building to show it off to the group today! In the meantime, I have some *almostnearlycomplete* pictures of its progress. There was a ton of ends to tuck in. That might have been the most time consuming part of the whole project. I did a lot of it while doing some marathon television watching. I need to catch up on Fringe…

Almost Complete!

Scraps from the ends I've woven in.

All the ends...

I was thinking about saving all the ends and putting them outside somewhere for birds to find and maybe use for their nests. I dunno, do birds like acrylic?

Blanketeers Thursday!

Thursday, September 1st, 2011 | At the office, blah blah blah, charity, crochet | No Comments

Every other Thursday at work, I am getting together with some co-workers to work on Blanketeers projects. I have to say, I have pretty much been the lone wolf in my building since all of my crocheting pals left and moved to another building. Today, Wendy stopped by to sit and crochet with me and soon enough, she’ll be working in my building too. As for the folks in the other building,  they are still meeting every other Thursday and finding ways to get their squares to me…which is AWESOME! I, in turn, send them pictures of the progress I am making. It’s kinda like those children’s charities where you send them your coffee money and they send you pictures of a kid in a third world country wearing new kicks.

Looking good!

So far our progress is great! I am totally neglecting my own projects to work on this, but I feel really good about that. Someone is gonna love them some acrylic blankie when all is said and done!

My distractions are never ending…

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011 | blah blah blah, charity, crochet, KAL, knitting, UFO's | No Comments

I dunno kids, despite my best efforts, I am finding it difficult to maintain my knitting mojo. I am still a clue and a half behind in my Mystery Lace KAL and still plugging away on my Mountain View Sweater (yes, it isn’t in hibernation just yet). Just 2 ½ more inches to knit on the back of THAT sucker. Oh, but then I have to finish the front….oh, and the sleeves.

The problem is that I haven’t been doing much knitting on my lunch hour. I am spending a lot of time with my friends catching up on Battlestar Galactica and my new favorite show, Misfits. I just haven’t been much in the mood to do anything but escape in my brain at those particular moments when I have time to do so.

Every once in a while I will bring my knitting in there with me to watch stuff, but lately, not so much.

I am also starting the mad scramble to get a Halloween costume ready. My sewing machine is toast though. I tried mending a pair of pants for a co-worker and *kablooey*. I need to find myself a good sewing machine repair place. I’ll talk more costume nonsense later.

I have been working mostly on my charity stuff. The Blanketeers blanket is getting bigger and bigger with more squares coming in!

I also am working on my Op Art charity blanket. I am so close to being done, I can almost taste it. Those purl rows take FOREVER though.

Still going...

But I'm not sure how big it is yet...

Since it is being knit in the round, I really have no idea how big this blanket actually is right now. I could make a guess, but I figured I would be safe if I just knit until I ran out of yarn.

Things sometimes get done…even when I’m not around.

Thursday, July 21st, 2011 | blah blah blah, charity, crochet | No Comments

So, I had big plans on Wednesday night…plans to see Eddie Izzard at the Hollywood Bowl. I was super excited because it was my first time ever at the bowl. It was a great show! Very funny! I can’t wait to see another show there!

But that isn’t why I am writing…

In typical fashion, I had brought no knitting or crocheting with me. I mean, I was there for a show, not to knit or cro. Plus, you never really know what the policy is somewhere. I know in many places, a set of circulars can get you bounced from the gate and sent back to your car. I have complained many times here on the blog about how you can’t take knitting needles into Disneyland. That annoys me, but I make it work.

I don’t think that was why I was writing either…

Why was I writing?

Oh yes! So, while I was cracking up at the Eddie Izzard show, one of the lovely Blanketeers from work, AmyLou, was watching my beloved children.

Yay for babysitters!

Even better still, she asked for yarn to work on squares for the charity blanket we are working on. After she put the kids to bed, she started cranking out the crocheting!

Now we are that much closer to having enough squares for a blanket! Right now there is enough for a small lap blanket, but I am going to wait and see if more squares start coming in soon. I just sent an entire bag of our charity stash yarn to the other building for the group to use.

There is still much to be done…

Granny Squares

Here is a stack of granny squares for the folks in my charity ‘Blanketeers’ group at work. It’s pretty good considering they moved the majority of us to another building and I am the last person in the building doing this. The majority of these squares were completed by the folks that moved to the other building. Periodically, I will receive some from them.

I miss having them around…I’ve been trying to work on these here and there. If I can get 100 squares, I could put together a decent lap blanket. I volunteered crochet them together when the time comes…
