Crafty holiday

Sunday, January 11th, 2015 | Amigurumi, At the office, crafts, crochet, FO's, Geekery, Holiday | No Comments

It certainly has been busy, busy times. The holidays are busy for all fiber artists. It’s part of the reason why my knitting group celebrates Christmas in February. It’s just more realistic for us.

Plus, ya know, there is that thing that keeps my busy most days called “my job”. Yes, there’s that.

Speaking of my job, it’s been terribly exciting lately lately… which means busy, too. I have a new cubicle and a place on a new show. I also have new work friends. I wanted to make something small for everyone, so I made little bags filled with homemade goodies and attached homemade ornaments to each one.

Ornaments for my work friends…

And Jason Funderburker got some striped socks and a new top hat!

As hard as it is to believe, I didn’t really make a lot of fibery things this Christmas. I actually tried pacing myself this year. Call it a Christmas gift to myself. 🙂

Working Frogs…

Friday, November 14th, 2014 | Amigurumi, At the office, crochet, Design, FO's | 1 Comment

Ahh, yes. The day job.

Over The Garden Wall finally airing is bittersweet. People have been posting all kinds of love for the show. However, it also means things have wound down and people have gone their separate ways. It’s been the best working experience I’ve ever had. I am truly grateful to have worked with such amazing and talented people.

People are starting to ask about the frog. Maybe it’s time I wrote a pattern?

Adrienne and I threw together crew themed costumes at the last minute. Yay, sewing skills!

On to more adventures! I have two other productions to keep me plenty busy! Maybe working on patterns might be a good lunchtime activity?

Big Sammy…

Sunday, June 22nd, 2014 | Amigurumi, crochet, Pattern | No Comments

While I am busy trying new things and experimenting for an upcoming project, my Sammy pattern has been selling on Ravelry. I am really excited to see some upcoming project photos from people!

Recently I received an email from someone who purchased the pattern. She stated she was making the project for a friend and wanted some advice on modding it for size.

I hadn’t tried modding this for size at all myself, but I wanted to try something out before responding to her email.

Sammy…for size reference.

Everyone’s gauge is different, and your gauge is what will effect the size of the finished product. The easiest way I could think of to make him bigger is to double the yarn and up the hook size. I whipped up a quick sample and sent her the above picture with an explanation of what I did.

I am really looking forward to seeing how big her Sammy turns out!!

Meet my Crochet Capybara…

Thursday, March 21st, 2013 | Amigurumi, crochet, Pattern, Toys | No Comments

I was talking about losing my knitting mojo yesterday, so I decided to try and get productive in other ways! I mean, there is plenty I can be doing besides knitting, right?

Here he is!

I’ve done it! I’ve finally posted my first ever pattern to Ravelry! The Crochet Capybara!

I am pretty darn excited to finally have this little guy out there. He’s been hiding out for months! It’s an easy-peasy pattern, so definitely check it out.

I have more patterns in the pipeline…I hope to get them out into the universe soon!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Thursday, February 14th, 2013 | Amigurumi, crafts, crochet, FO's, Holiday, Test | No Comments

I am a sucker for that love stuff. The more awkward the better.

But for this Valentine’s Day, I am spending the majority of my time working on some “self love”. Now, before you start going all “Stacy is getting a little too personal on her blog”, let me explain.

I am my own worst critic. I have problems really being in love with the things I create. I have always thought “If this comes easy to me, surely everyone must be able to do it. Why should I try and sell the things I make when everyone else can just as easily make it themselves?” I have struggled with these thoughts since I started crafting…and I still do.

But for the first time…probably ever…I really love what I am doing.

Ya know when you pick up something you made to look at it, and you are so so pleased about how it turned out that you actually squeal? I have done that. A lot. And with every squeal…or “Wook at my cute wittle baby!”…I stop for a moment and think “Maybe someone else might like this too.”

So, in honor of Valentine’s Day, I am going to practice “self love” by spending the day working on the things I love. I’ve started shooting off copies of my first (actually typed) pattern to testers. I am ready for feedback…and I hope that people find that they love them as much as I do.

In honor of Valentines Day, I am sending my first completed pattern out for testing. #crochet #amigurumi #design

My first (typed) pattern. There will more to come!

If any of my readers would be interested in testing patterns, please let me know! You can email me at admin AT knithitsthefan DOT com.

More FO’s fo’ sho’…

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013 | Amigurumi, crochet, FO's, other people's projects, Test | No Comments

Hooray! I love it when I can talk about fun stuff I am doing!

Remember those test projects I said I was doing? Well, the other project is now live!

Vanessa Laven over at Mixed Martial Arts and Crafts has released her Lymph Node pattern. This little guy is easy peasy to crochet and super cute! She is also donating part of the proceeds to Stupid Cancer. I cant think of a better reason to buy a pattern.

As for me…I gave my little lymph node to my mom, who is a breast cancer survivor. She had a laugh. “Here mom, I know they took a few of yours…now you can have one back.”

How kids keep you honest…

Sunday, October 5th, 2008 | blah blah blah, crochet, FO's, knitting, UFO's | 1 Comment

I have a problem with guilt. I feel super guilty. It started with a simple project that turned into one of those monkeys on my back. It started with amigurumi.

The infamous pink elephant

The infamous pink elephant

My daughter loves elephants. She has a bunch of stuffed elephants in her bed. I am not sure what started her elephant obsession, I mean, she is only 3 1/2. Anyway, she was batting her big blue eyes, asking her mommy for a pink elephant. She had spied one of mommy’s books, Amigurumi World, and fell in love with that elephant.

Now, if there is one thing the girls at the shop know about me is that I can be a tight knitter. Even worse, I am a tight crocheter. I mean, I was crocheting so tight that it was ruining my wrists, and I needed desperately to stop. The guilt was killing me. I had told my friend Ang, who incidentally works with me too, and she offered to finish the crochet for me as long as I did the sewing. I was *very* grateful.

Ang finished crocheting the thing…and I got it sewed it up and gave it to my daughter one night before bed. She fell in love. Which then leads to more guilt. My son was asking for a toy too.

Bleu Elephant Robot with appendages

Blue Elephant Robot with appendages

“Mommy, I want a Blue Elephant Robot” he says. Seriously. Kids come up with the weirdest requests. I couldn’t give her a toy and not give him one though.  I decided to take on this project and I was going to make up the pattern too. Because I have all that extra time between working full time, volunteering on the local twins’ club board, knit-a-longs, etc. So I started.

There would be mornings when the kids were getting ready for pre-school, that he would walk up to me and ask “Mommy gonna go to yarn?” or “Mommy work on Blue Elephant Robot?” It was killing me.

So It has been a couple months, but I am going to get this thing done. I started the ears last night, but they were too small, so I completey frogged them and started over. Once the ears are done, he will need a couple of arms and some finishing. I will get him done. I WILL…

I have given myself a deadline. Friday.

It needs a little steam blocking...

It needs a little steam blocking...

And, as promised. Here is picture of my sweater! I finished it Wednesday night while watching Pushing Daisies. I got a lot of comments on Friday when I wore it. I received the most praise from the ladies at the Stitch and Bitch. I think they were a little stunned that it was actually done. I let them know as soon as I was done with this sweater I ended up frogging and recasting on the Iceland sweater. I don’t think they are holding their breath for me to finish it, but maybe I might suprise them. I am looking at it in a whole new light.

Now it’s time to run. I am teaching a sock class at the lys and the new October KAL begins today….Monkey socks.
