Belated 2014 Tour de Fleece Roundup

Oh look! Another seriously belated post. Go figure!

But hey, I’m one step closer to clearing all those drafts out!

Here is what I completed this year for Tour de Fleece. I wasn’t spinning with a team or anything, so it really is NBD…but I thought maybe someone out there might wanna see what I had spun up.

My completed skeins.

That’s pretty much all of it (well, minus a skein I had spun pre- tour and plied during the tour).

Pictured above is 2 skeins of Creatively Dyed (that I purchased at Stitches West a few years back) 20 milk protein/ 20 seacell/ 60 wool, try 3-ply, 729 yards total and 1 skein of wool/silk/abunchofotherstuff, 2 ply (ply only), 95 yards.

Also, just for fun, I figured I would show off a skein of non-tour yarn. Below is the yarn I spun for Courtney for her birthday. I called it Autumn Candy Corn and it is 80 Merino/ 20 Silk from Bee Mice Elf Fiber (purchased at CogKNITive Fiber Retreat last year), 2 ply, 390 yards.

Mystery Fan Art.

Tuesday, August 19th, 2014 | Amigurumi, At the office, blah blah blah, FO's, Toys | 1 Comment

Okay…so I originally wrote this post awhile ago…long before I knew what was actually going on with any of this. I saved it in my drafts (which is becoming more and more cluttered these days) thinking that later this year, when I am able to talk about it, I would go ahead and show everyone.

I had taken this picture right after I was done making a few of these….then pixelated it because I technically can’t show you what it is.

Mysterious mystery.

But then this happened and since I work on this show, I am going to feel free to straight up pimp it’s tumblr out on my blog. Plus there’s that thing ….ya know…I made the little guy pictured in the profile pic.

I am thinking once I get a moment, maybe I should write up the pattern. Maybe someone might want one of their own.

A little knitting here and there…

Tuesday, July 8th, 2014 | blah blah blah, knitting | No Comments

I keep trying to sneak a little knitting in here and there. It seems like this project is taking forever, but I am spending time on a whole bunch of different projects right now… and honestly, I’m not in any hurry to get it done.

Ahhh…..

I worked on it a lot when I was visiting my family in Detroit. Looking at this picture does make me wish I could’ve stayed longer.

I’m seeing tentacles!

Monday, June 23rd, 2014 | blah blah blah, cowl, knitting, Pattern, WIP, yarn | No Comments

Since I have had some serious project ADD lately, I have been moving slow in getting any real knitting done. It’s okay though…I am in no hurry. I have other projects that I really should be working on anyway.

Big Al, from both sides.

Big Al is my first attempt at double knitting. I really like the idea of having my knitting be reversible. I wasn’t so sure how he would turn out at first, but now that I am starting to see the design emerge, I am getting really excited about it.  The best part…the Double Knit Kraken Cowl pattern is super easy. I think it’s a great pattern for anyone who would like to give double knitting a try.

Friday Night Block Party…

Here I go again….stacking up my drafts until I forget what it was I wanted to say. Thank goodness I am organized with my pictures… at least.

So this is the kinda stuff I do on Friday Nights…to keep me off the mean streets of Burbank.

The pictures below show how you can block a garment in no time. It was dry enough to unpin and take home at the end of the night.

Courtney’s hooded cape thingy.

photo 2

She had stitches on a cable to seam later. She was stepping on the towel to get some of the water out and ended up breaking one of the end caps for her needles.

photo 3

Pinning it out with a little help from Angelique.

Hopefully I will get to see what it looks like once it’s seamed up…but it looked really good when she left my place that night. Maybe I’ll get to snap some pictures later.

I also thought I would snap a WIP picture…of course, there isn’t much more done on my project yet. I haven’t had much time to work on it lately.

photo 4

Angelique’s shawl, Courtney’s Signe hat…and my Big Al (well, a couple of his tentacles at least).

My Signe hat alongside Courtney’s WIP. You’d think it was freaky friday or something. Usually our color choices are the other way around…

A very Hannibal Day…

Sunday, June 1st, 2014 | Amigurumi, blah blah blah, crafts, FO's, Geekery, knitting, Toys | 1 Comment

I swear my life is all about Fandom and Fiber Art lately. I just finished a type of fan art project (more on that later)…I’ve been asked to be in a themed art show (more on that later too)…and then out of the blue, I start getting a barrage of texts.

Turns out a few of my Fannibal friends went to an Emmy screening of Hannibal (Episode 213:Mizumono) last week in Hollywood. They didn’t get in, but they had a lot of fun outside the event.  Remember this?

The Hannibal Lecter Playset.

Well, my friend Ashley decided to take it with her to the Hannibal Screening.

And when my phone blew up…these were the pictures I was receiving…

Mimi Mochi Will Graham and the real Will Graham.

Ash with Hugh Dancy. Apparently, Bryan Fuller took this picture for her.

Caroline Dhavernas with Ash.

She also told me that Bryan Fuller got to see all 4 of them. Kinda cool!

TBT…Fleece edition.

I have a confession to make…

I sometimes shove a load of pictures from my phone into blank posts and save them as drafts, only to forget they exist. I can’t tell you how many of these “pictures only” drafts I’ve deleted from my blog after looking at them and not remembering what I wanted to write.

It just so happens that this is one of those posts.*

Fleece!

20140318-123743.jpg

Hand carding! Making Rolags! Excitement! Adventure!

I can tell you that these were the pictures I took at Friday Night Knitting when Courtney brought over the fleece we bought at Stitches West. We dumped it on a bed sheet, separated and weighed it.

20140318-123804.jpg

Courtney playing with the hand carders.

20140318-123820.jpg

These big clear bins are great for keeping my fluff in.

After making some rolags, I tried spinning some of it. It’s nice and soft.

20140318-123832.jpg

I thought I would try spinning some of it.

I can tell you this…I am not done carding it. Carding this stuff is one of my least favorite things. I mean, I dislike brushing my own hair, why would I enjoy brushing sheep? It’s pretty sad…but on Friday nights when my friends come over to knit, I’ve been recruiting them to do it for me. I’m lazy, really. I did hit up a friend that just moved in nearby to see if I could use her drum carder to finish this stuff. I know I’ll make a mess, but it’ll be way more speedy than how I am doing it (or not doing it) right now.

Hopefully she can find it among all of her moving boxes. Keep your fingers crossed!

(*These pictures are over 2 months old. I had a lot of drafts that were FAR OLDER than this.)

Stopping by to say “hi”…

It has not been an easy road, but I am slowly getting there.

I started Big Al at least three times. Ripping out because I was unsure about gauge…ripping out again because of twisted yarn…I was starting to feel like a complete novice. I thought maybe I was losing my knitting mojo.

I hope I am not jinxing it, but I feel like I am on track now. My Miss Bab’s yarn has held up well despite my abuse. I am being extra careful, but not going so crazy that I can’t work on this project while I catch up on my favorite television. I am really liking the way it is turning out so far.

20140514-092437.jpg

He’s waving his little tentacle to say hello..

And now that I am getting a handle on double knitting, Courtney has talked me into trying a steeking project. I am not sure where it will fall in the queue for this year, but I already have all the yarn I need for it. Court frogged the Mountain View Cardigan that has been sitting half-knit in my stash closet and wound it into the most amazing center pull balls. It’s ready to be Oranje now.

Seriously, Court’s hand wound, center pull balls are legit.

Finally…

After working a handful of years in animation, it has finally happened.

I was sitting in the kitchen at work having lunch with one of my coworkers and working on my latest project. There was someone at the next table, eating his lunch, who started to ask me questions about what I was making. No big deal, it happens a lot.

He then asked if he could take pictures and some video. It turns out that he is drawing someone knitting in the board he is working on for another one of the shows that resides on this floor and he wants to make sure it’s drawn correctly.

This makes me insanely happy…for so many reasons.

The Genesis of Big Al…

While I’ve been in the midst of taking care of all of the things one needs to take care of when they have had their house burglarized, I decided to take a little Ravelry break. Imagine my surprise when I found this:

20140428-125807.jpg

This is so sweet. I cried.

I had been intending to do this project… sticking the pattern in my wish list so I wouldn’t forget it. I had just had a discussion with Courtney about this being my playoff knitting project. See, my home team is the Red Wings…and in Hockeytown we have something we call Big Al.

Big Al. Thanks NHL.com!

I’ve been putting it off. I needed to get my current project done first. I knew I would have a hard time picking it back up again if I put it down to start this. It’s pretty much how I operate these days. I decided to torture myself by keeping the yarn in front of my while I knit on my Lunar Progression.

20140428-125824.jpg

My yarn for Big Al. I have orangey octopus on the brain.

Well, the Red Wings were eliminated, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still have have a playoff knit, I guess. I decided to dive in and start double knitting on my very own Big Al. It’s my first time doing this, so I am a little nervous.

20140429-093345.jpg

Double knitting. It’s interesting.

As for my Lunar Progression…well, more on that later…
