Let’s Talk Crafty Christmas…Part 4

I think that David’s present was one of my favorites to make…

I consider David to be an integral part of my becoming a fan of the show Supernatural. Those Winchester boys are certainly fun to look at! Well, not too long ago, I scored myself a ticket to Supernatural Con here in Burbank. While I was there, I was scouring what little they had in the way of swag to find the perfect Castiel souvenir for him. I had a tough time. I left with a Destiel mug, but I was disappointed that they didn’t have more there.

Just a head and some limbs.

So I decided that a pint sized Castiel would be the perfect gift.

Alas, poor Castiel…

I used the book AmiguruME by Allison Hoffman to make this project. It’s a great book! I highly recommend it!

The scariest part of this project was giving him the five o’clock shadow. That is mascara on his cute little face. I was so worried I would mess it up.

Finally, here’s our favorite angel.

I think he turned out awesome!

I also made David a Rooty hat from one of my favorite designers, Alex Tinsley. I feel like I am in the mood to knit all kinds of ear flap and pom pom hats lately. Hopefully soon I will get to make one for myself. I have a few other things to clear out of the queue first!

Let’s Talk Crafty Christmas…Part 3

Ashley’s presents were all Hannibal themed this year.

Last year, For Ash’ birthday, I had made her a shoe box Hannibal Lecter Playset by modding a few Mini Mochi patterns. It included Hannibal and a stag in Hannibal’s office. I told her I would try and make her more characters. I didn’t realize how difficult they would be. It is hard to make characters that you can actually identify when knitting so small. I tried to get as close as possible, but Will Graham’s hair was a serious challenge for me.

Like I gave his little tiny soul a fright!

Yes, I put in al the little hairs individually…like a crazy person.

This is what I ended up.

I also decided to weave her a nice sized scarf with a combination of some of my hand spun singles and commercial yarn I had in my stash.

A woven scarf…

…and a really awful picture of the felted stag head detail.

I think she really liked them! Hopefully at some point I will get a picture of all of her little Hannibal characters together!

Knitting Lunch!

Maribel and I met for Knit Lunch last week! On this particular occasion, it was just the two of us.

Back in the day, when we were working together on that cartoon, we would meet up with a few other folks to crochet during lunch. She loves little amigurumi and doll patterns. She did a fabulous job, but I remember that she had some mishaps because crocheting with black yarn is incredibly difficult.

Now, she is relearning knitting…

Meet my Crochet Capybara…

Thursday, March 21st, 2013 | Amigurumi, crochet, Pattern, Toys | No Comments

I was talking about losing my knitting mojo yesterday, so I decided to try and get productive in other ways! I mean, there is plenty I can be doing besides knitting, right?

Here he is!

I’ve done it! I’ve finally posted my first ever pattern to Ravelry! The Crochet Capybara!

I am pretty darn excited to finally have this little guy out there. He’s been hiding out for months! It’s an easy-peasy pattern, so definitely check it out.

I have more patterns in the pipeline…I hope to get them out into the universe soon!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Thursday, February 14th, 2013 | Amigurumi, crafts, crochet, FO's, Holiday, Test | No Comments

I am a sucker for that love stuff. The more awkward the better.

But for this Valentine’s Day, I am spending the majority of my time working on some “self love”. Now, before you start going all “Stacy is getting a little too personal on her blog”, let me explain.

I am my own worst critic. I have problems really being in love with the things I create. I have always thought “If this comes easy to me, surely everyone must be able to do it. Why should I try and sell the things I make when everyone else can just as easily make it themselves?” I have struggled with these thoughts since I started crafting…and I still do.

But for the first time…probably ever…I really love what I am doing.

Ya know when you pick up something you made to look at it, and you are so so pleased about how it turned out that you actually squeal? I have done that. A lot. And with every squeal…or “Wook at my cute wittle baby!”…I stop for a moment and think “Maybe someone else might like this too.”

So, in honor of Valentine’s Day, I am going to practice “self love” by spending the day working on the things I love. I’ve started shooting off copies of my first (actually typed) pattern to testers. I am ready for feedback…and I hope that people find that they love them as much as I do.

In honor of Valentines Day, I am sending my first completed pattern out for testing. #crochet #amigurumi #design

My first (typed) pattern. There will more to come!

If any of my readers would be interested in testing patterns, please let me know! You can email me at admin AT knithitsthefan DOT com.

More FO’s fo’ sho’…

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013 | Amigurumi, crochet, FO's, other people's projects, Test | No Comments

Hooray! I love it when I can talk about fun stuff I am doing!

Remember those test projects I said I was doing? Well, the other project is now live!

Vanessa Laven over at Mixed Martial Arts and Crafts has released her Lymph Node pattern. This little guy is easy peasy to crochet and super cute! She is also donating part of the proceeds to Stupid Cancer. I cant think of a better reason to buy a pattern.

As for me…I gave my little lymph node to my mom, who is a breast cancer survivor. She had a laugh. “Here mom, I know they took a few of yours…now you can have one back.”
