Iron Giant Tribute Show

Last Saturday Night was the Iron Giant Tribute Show at community/A Little Known Shop in Anaheim, CA. Hooray!! My very first art show!

IMG_4069.JPG

My family taking a look at all of the awesome art!

Community is a great little space that has small shops, gallery space, a craft space and a great walkway in-between where all sorts of vendors had set up their tables. They had food and music in the back!

Shopping and food!

I got the chance to catch up with my friend Kati who was in town for the weekend.

My mother insisted that I get a picture next to my tapestry. She’s really into sharing this kind of stuff with her friends.

My mother insisted I get this picture for her….

We had a great time and it was so nice to see old friends and meet some new people. I also bought a few things in the shop!

Mystery Fan Art.

Tuesday, August 19th, 2014 | Amigurumi, At the office, blah blah blah, FO's, Toys | 1 Comment

Okay…so I originally wrote this post awhile ago…long before I knew what was actually going on with any of this. I saved it in my drafts (which is becoming more and more cluttered these days) thinking that later this year, when I am able to talk about it, I would go ahead and show everyone.

I had taken this picture right after I was done making a few of these….then pixelated it because I technically can’t show you what it is.

Mysterious mystery.

But then this happened and since I work on this show, I am going to feel free to straight up pimp it’s tumblr out on my blog. Plus there’s that thing ….ya know…I made the little guy pictured in the profile pic.

I am thinking once I get a moment, maybe I should write up the pattern. Maybe someone might want one of their own.

My handspun…all growed up.

There really is something special about seeing folks create projects with yarn that you have spun.

Last CogKNITive Fiber Retreat, I had donated some yarn for raffle prizes. The stuff you see below was from that donation. My friend Loretta (who is seriously one of the sweetest people I have ever met in my life and is amazing with a crochet hook) got her hands on it and made the lovely cowl you see below.

Look at it! It’s so….pretty!

These are her photos from her Ravelry page. The pattern is the Danube DK Shell Cowl by Cathy Campbell.

It really turned out lovely.

This really has me wanting to make something with my own hand spun. I haven’t made anything with my own yarn in awhile…I should do that.

(Well, when I am done with all of my current WIP’s).

Practice, practice, practice

20140704-205359.jpg

Playing around with patterns.

While I wait for all of my supplies to arrive for that project I keep procrastinating on, I decided I should try out a few things so I know what I am doing when I actually do this stuff for reals.

20140704-205427.jpg

I have so much scrap yarn for this stuff!

First things first…I needed to try out drawing a design and weaving on top of it. No problem…achievement unlocked! Oh look, I can make fringe too!

20140704-205554.jpg

All done!

I also attached it to one of the sticks my daughter and her friends collected for me at the last Girl Scout event. Yay, nature!

20140704-205604.jpg

I played around in the round too.

I also tried weaving on an embroidery hoop. Just something easy so I could try it out.

20140704-205509.jpg

Then took them to work and decorated my cubicle.

Now I have proper office decorations. Maybe I will start a collection of all of my little experiments and just hang them up at work. It’ll give me something to stare at and pet if I ever get stressed out at work.

A very Hannibal Day…

Sunday, June 1st, 2014 | Amigurumi, blah blah blah, crafts, FO's, Geekery, knitting, Toys | 1 Comment

I swear my life is all about Fandom and Fiber Art lately. I just finished a type of fan art project (more on that later)…I’ve been asked to be in a themed art show (more on that later too)…and then out of the blue, I start getting a barrage of texts.

Turns out a few of my Fannibal friends went to an Emmy screening of Hannibal (Episode 213:Mizumono) last week in Hollywood. They didn’t get in, but they had a lot of fun outside the event.  Remember this?

The Hannibal Lecter Playset.

Well, my friend Ashley decided to take it with her to the Hannibal Screening.

And when my phone blew up…these were the pictures I was receiving…

Mimi Mochi Will Graham and the real Will Graham.

Ash with Hugh Dancy. Apparently, Bryan Fuller took this picture for her.

She also told me that Bryan Fuller got to see all 4 of them. Kinda cool!

Lunar Progression…

Thursday, May 8th, 2014 | blocking, FO's, knitting, tools | No Comments
20140428-125853.jpg

Blocking. It’s necessary.

Wow, this is my first post for May. My, my….I have let things slip.

I felt like I was stuck in a never ending cycle of lace knitting. It wasn’t even a hard lace pattern…I mean, I had the 2 row repeat memorized. It’s pretty much the only thing that all the grey matter in my skull is good for these days. Hey, it’s something!

20140428-125934.jpg

It felt like it went on for forever.

After knitting 63″ of lace at a snail’s pace, I finally made it to the other end of my Lunar Progression. Then the blocking happened…and it grew…much like lace does. Then I worried, because, well…it’s not the Doctor Who scarf or anything. I wasn’t sure it was supposed to be so long, so wide, so huge. I freaked out until it was completely dry. Then I put it on just like how it was done in the picture from the pattern and my eyes got all glassy and huge. It’s perfect!!

Having the designer comment on my Ravelry project page was an added bonus.

Now to figure out where we are in the lunar cycle so I can set this thing correctly.

Whew! Done!

And she’s off…

Today is a big day! I just dropped my little girl off at Girl Scout camp and she is off to enjoy a weekend of fun in the wilderness with a bunch of her friends.

I had posted a picture of her for my friends and relatives to see and was asked if she had a sit-upon. I didn’t realize these things had been around for so long. I don’t remember making one when I was in Girl Scouts, but my mom and aunt  remember making them when they were kids…and they have a significant amount of years on me.

For those of you who don’t know what a sit-upon is, the Girl Scouts of America defines it as “A lightweight pad or mat used when sitting on the floor or ground.” Pretty self explanatory.

The supplies…

My daughter had missed one of her Brownie meetings while my parents were in town visiting, so we needed to play catch up. As part of earning her first badge, she made a pretty snazzy sit upon. My mom and I found the supplies at our local JoAnn’s and she put it all together with minimal help.

Marking for the holes…

Lacing it up!

All finished!!

Now she has it packed up and ready to use it on her first camping trip!

Let’s Talk Crafty Christmas…Part 3

Ashley’s presents were all Hannibal themed this year.

Last year, For Ash’ birthday, I had made her a shoe box Hannibal Lecter Playset by modding a few Mini Mochi patterns. It included Hannibal and a stag in Hannibal’s office. I told her I would try and make her more characters. I didn’t realize how difficult they would be. It is hard to make characters that you can actually identify when knitting so small. I tried to get as close as possible, but Will Graham’s hair was a serious challenge for me.

20140226-081729.jpg

Like I gave his little tiny soul a fright!

Yes, I put in al the little hairs individually…like a crazy person.

20140226-081746.jpg

This is what I ended up.

I also decided to weave her a nice sized scarf with a combination of some of my hand spun singles and commercial yarn I had in my stash.

20140226-081642.jpg

A woven scarf…

20140226-081658.jpg

…and a really awful picture of the felted stag head detail.

I think she really liked them! Hopefully at some point I will get a picture of all of her little Hannibal characters together!

Let’s Talk Crafty Christmas…Part 2

Friday, March 7th, 2014 | crochet, FO's, Holiday, scarf, stash busting, Tunisian, yarn | No Comments

Angelique’s present this year was a challenge for me, but I learned a lot. It is my very first Tunisian crochet project (well, completed project anyway).

20140226-081445.jpg

This was an interesting experiment.

The pattern is Ziggurat, designed by my friend Alexis.

20140226-081458.jpg

It’s mostly tunisian mesh with a section of striping.

The colors scream “Angelique”…and this will look great with that new shawl pin she bought at Stitches West.

This was actually a great beginner tunisian crochet pattern, although I really wish there were more online resources for Tunisian crochet in general. It seemed like finding tutorials for different stitches was difficult for me. Maybe at some point I might have to spring for a stitch/pattern book or something. I haven’t yet because it feels like all of the tunisian projects I see pictures of on the internet would be popular for an age range much higher than mine. This pattern, however, had a more modern feel to it.
