Let’s Talk Crafty Christmas…Part 3

Ashley’s presents were all Hannibal themed this year.

Last year, For Ash’ birthday, I had made her a shoe box Hannibal Lecter Playset by modding a few Mini Mochi patterns. It included Hannibal and a stag in Hannibal’s office. I told her I would try and make her more characters. I didn’t realize how difficult they would be. It is hard to make characters that you can actually identify when knitting so small. I tried to get as close as possible, but Will Graham’s hair was a serious challenge for me.

Like I gave his little tiny soul a fright!

Yes, I put in al the little hairs individually…like a crazy person.

This is what I ended up.

I also decided to weave her a nice sized scarf with a combination of some of my hand spun singles and commercial yarn I had in my stash.

A woven scarf…

…and a really awful picture of the felted stag head detail.

I think she really liked them! Hopefully at some point I will get a picture of all of her little Hannibal characters together!

Stitches West 2014: Day 2

Saturday morning started off with David spoiling us with Psycho Donuts! We needed all that sugar to get through a full day on the Stitches floor!

A sugar coma waiting to happen…

I have to say, I don’t feel like I did much in the way of shopping for myself on Saturday. I mostly concentrated on trying to spend other people’s money. Can you say “Enabler”? That’s is me when it comes to spinning wheels.

I even tried out a few myself. No, I don’t need another right now. I barely have space for the two I have.

Spinning!

About an hour before the floor closed, I felt the need to take a break. That backpack was heavy and I wanted to start winding the yarn for my new project. I didn’t spend very long in the hotel bar though, we had supplies to buy…people to meet…fleece to wash…

Doctor Who 50th!

So, I said I was going to do it…and I did! I had a Doctor Who 50th Anniversary viewing party!

20131124-101637.jpg

Me and my girl before everyone arrived. We’re both wearing our Her Universe dresses and the headbands I’ve been talking about!

20131124-101650.jpg

Eleven!

After we watched (and gasped…and cheered…and maybe shed a tear or two), we had craft time! I saw a really great blog post from Doodle Craft on how to make your own sonic screwdriver pens! You can check out the post HERE.

Everyone making their sonics!

Both kids and adults enjoyed craft time! It was super fun to all get around the table, play with some sculpey and discuss what we thought of the show.

Our Sonic Screwdrivers!

We had so much fun! I feel like I should have some sort of craft at every party!

Tavern knitting

20131117-225034.jpg
What do you do if folks suggest you don’t bring your knitting to a party at a bar because it isn’t socially acceptable and (for once) you actually take their advice?

You wing it!

My friend Jessie was having a birthday party at a local tavern and many of the folks in attendance were artists. In typical fashion, there was a lot of napkin doodles. As for me, I’ve never really considered myself someone who could draw well, so I did what I do best…I grabbed my Nintendo DS stylus, borrowed a stylus from a new friend, ripped up a napkin, and started knitting it.

I did rip a hole in it to start, but after a while, I started to get the hang of it.

Doctor Who stuff!!

Wednesday, November 13th, 2013 | blah blah blah, Design, Geekery, Miscellaneous | No Comments

Hey Doctor Who fans!!!

Are you getting ready for the upcoming Doctor Who 50th Anniversary? Are you having a viewing party? Are you headed to your local theater so you can watch the special on the big screen? Do you plan on dressing up?

I am.

What does this have to do with my crafting? Well, I designed these headbands for HerUniverse… and right now you can buy them at your local Hot Topic store (they seem to be out of stock on the website). If you happen to be looking for an accessory to go with your TARDIS or Dalek outfit, you should check them out!!

Seriously, here are my friends wearing them…and I think they look super cute (although my friends are super cute to begin with).

Why is there no knitting in my crafting?

All of last week was crunch time. I am not sure how it happened, but I was the last one in my family to get prepared for Halloween. Maybe it was because my costume had the most the DIY.

20131104-082147.jpg

There was felt…and hot glue gun injuries.

20131104-082206.jpg

Paint to ruin my manicure. (But let’s be honest, I do my own manicures…so bad could I have possibly ruined it?)

20131104-082222.jpg

Sharpies and wigs.

20131104-082238.jpg

And quite a lot of hand sewing things to other things…yes, I’m sewing these as I’m wearing them.

20131104-082247.jpg

And makeup (which is an area that is pretty foreign to me).

It was a lot of DIY, but I think it turned out okay. Granted, no one (well maybe a few small children) knew who I was and my husband’s store bought mask and gloves were a bigger hit (which is annoying when you put that much work into a costume), but my daughter appreciated that I dressed up as a Monster High Doll for her, even without my finding latex gills.
