Felted Taxidermy…

Wednesday, January 21st, 2015 | Design, felting, FO's, Geekery, Holiday, Needle Felting, weaving | No Comments

Well, as we know around these parts….Christmas lasts until at least late February. Luckily, I had a hair appointment with my stylist and friend, Lacey, at Frenchy’s earlier this month. I had Lacey’s Christmas gift done, so I was excited to deliver it to her. She is super into bugs and has a quite impressive collection of them. I was hoping mine could join the fold.

Loosely based on a New England Silk Moth. Kinda funny since we fiber fiends cringe at the ‘M’ word.

I have been eager to work on more projects that incorporate different fiber arts in one piece. For this one, I used my hand loom to weave the background and then needle felted on top of it. It’s construction is the same as my Iron Giant piece.

She really liked it, and it looks great in her collection! I am so glad!

Crafty holiday

Sunday, January 11th, 2015 | Amigurumi, At the office, crafts, crochet, FO's, Geekery, Holiday | No Comments

It certainly has been busy, busy times. The holidays are busy for all fiber artists. It’s part of the reason why my knitting group celebrates Christmas in February. It’s just more realistic for us.

Plus, ya know, there is that thing that keeps my busy most days called “my job”. Yes, there’s that.

Speaking of my job, it’s been terribly exciting lately lately… which means busy, too. I have a new cubicle and a place on a new show. I also have new work friends. I wanted to make something small for everyone, so I made little bags filled with homemade goodies and attached homemade ornaments to each one.

And Jason Funderburker got some striped socks and a new top hat!

As hard as it is to believe, I didn’t really make a lot of fibery things this Christmas. I actually tried pacing myself this year. Call it a Christmas gift to myself. 🙂

Small projects…

Saturday, September 27th, 2014 | At the office, FO's, Geekery, hats, knitting, Pattern | No Comments

Have I ever mentioned how much I like small projects? I actually feel like I am accomplishing something. Good thing too since most of my knitting projects have pretty much been cast to the side for all the rest of the stuff I am trying out.

IMG_3956.JPG

Small projects are great for lunchtime knitting at work!

This is a special hat though. My mom had mentioned that she knew a woman through one of her scrapbooking sites who had a little girl that just had a brain tumor removed. Her name is Rori and this hat is hers.

I was sitting in our editor’s office here at work not too long ago when I got a message from Rori’s mom saying that they had just received the hat and sent me a picture of her wearing it. It totally made my day.

Funny how the internet can bring people together.

If you’re interested in this hat pattern, it is Hermione’s Cable and Eyelet Hat and you can find it here.

Iron Giant Tribute Show

Last Saturday Night was the Iron Giant Tribute Show at community/A Little Known Shop in Anaheim, CA. Hooray!! My very first art show!

IMG_4069.JPG

My family taking a look at all of the awesome art!

Community is a great little space that has small shops, gallery space, a craft space and a great walkway in-between where all sorts of vendors had set up their tables. They had food and music in the back!

Shopping and food!

I got the chance to catch up with my friend Kati who was in town for the weekend.

My mother insisted that I get a picture next to my tapestry. She’s really into sharing this kind of stuff with her friends.

My mother insisted I get this picture for her….

We had a great time and it was so nice to see old friends and meet some new people. I also bought a few things in the shop!

Here’s the poster!

Here is a little sneak peek that I had posted to my instagram account. Poor guy was headless for so long. He is happy now that his head is attached!

I was so glad that he finally had a head.

I hope to have him done this week sometime…it’ll probably happen this weekend. Either way, my deadline is fast approaching and I have to get this piece done and in the right hands!

A very Hannibal Day…

Sunday, June 1st, 2014 | Amigurumi, blah blah blah, crafts, FO's, Geekery, knitting, Toys | 1 Comment

I swear my life is all about Fandom and Fiber Art lately. I just finished a type of fan art project (more on that later)…I’ve been asked to be in a themed art show (more on that later too)…and then out of the blue, I start getting a barrage of texts.

Turns out a few of my Fannibal friends went to an Emmy screening of Hannibal (Episode 213:Mizumono) last week in Hollywood. They didn’t get in, but they had a lot of fun outside the event.  Remember this?

The Hannibal Lecter Playset.

Well, my friend Ashley decided to take it with her to the Hannibal Screening.

And when my phone blew up…these were the pictures I was receiving…

Mimi Mochi Will Graham and the real Will Graham.

Ash with Hugh Dancy. Apparently, Bryan Fuller took this picture for her.

Caroline Dhavernas with Ash.

She also told me that Bryan Fuller got to see all 4 of them. Kinda cool!

The Genesis of Big Al…

While I’ve been in the midst of taking care of all of the things one needs to take care of when they have had their house burglarized, I decided to take a little Ravelry break. Imagine my surprise when I found this:

20140428-125807.jpg

This is so sweet. I cried.

I had been intending to do this project… sticking the pattern in my wish list so I wouldn’t forget it. I had just had a discussion with Courtney about this being my playoff knitting project. See, my home team is the Red Wings…and in Hockeytown we have something we call Big Al.

Big Al. Thanks NHL.com!

I’ve been putting it off. I needed to get my current project done first. I knew I would have a hard time picking it back up again if I put it down to start this. It’s pretty much how I operate these days. I decided to torture myself by keeping the yarn in front of my while I knit on my Lunar Progression.

20140428-125824.jpg

My yarn for Big Al. I have orangey octopus on the brain.

Well, the Red Wings were eliminated, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still have have a playoff knit, I guess. I decided to dive in and start double knitting on my very own Big Al. It’s my first time doing this, so I am a little nervous.

Double knitting. It’s interesting.

As for my Lunar Progression…well, more on that later…

Let’s Talk Crafty Christmas…Part 4

I think that David’s present was one of my favorites to make…

I consider David to be an integral part of my becoming a fan of the show Supernatural. Those Winchester boys are certainly fun to look at! Well, not too long ago, I scored myself a ticket to Supernatural Con here in Burbank. While I was there, I was scouring what little they had in the way of swag to find the perfect Castiel souvenir for him. I had a tough time. I left with a Destiel mug, but I was disappointed that they didn’t have more there.

20140226-081903.jpg

Just a head and some limbs.

So I decided that a pint sized Castiel would be the perfect gift.

20140226-081932.jpg

Alas, poor Castiel…

I used the book AmiguruME by Allison Hoffman to make this project. It’s a great book! I highly recommend it!

The scariest part of this project was giving him the five o’clock shadow. That is mascara on his cute little face. I was so worried I would mess it up.

20140226-081955.jpg

Finally, here’s our favorite angel.

I think he turned out awesome!

I also made David a Rooty hat from one of my favorite designers, Alex Tinsley. I feel like I am in the mood to knit all kinds of ear flap and pom pom hats lately. Hopefully soon I will get to make one for myself. I have a few other things to clear out of the queue first!
