My new obsession…

I know I have been pretty quiet lately. Life has me incredibly busy. I can’t ever sit still and I always need to be making things. It’s been so hard to focus….I fee like I have crafty ADD.

I just started weaving. Yes, just what I need….ANOTHER hobby. I really love it though. It is super relaxing and a pretty great stash burner. Of course, now I want to bring ALL THE TOOLS into my place. I recently bought myself a small tapestry loom from Board and Bread. It’s gorgeous and great to work on. I bought myself a larger loom from Loom and Spindle on etsy, which is also a great starter loom. I ended up staining it a bright teal color.

Weaving with my daughter.

I had some embroidery hoops left over and, on the weekends, I’ve been helping her warp them so she can weave too.

Passing it on…

A larger wall hanging for my Mom.

So you can see, I just can’t get enough. I’ve already warped the looms back up and am ready to jump into some more weaving…well, as soon as the heatwave ends…

Happy August!

Here is that size comparison photo. It’s my completed In The Pink shawl on top of my Celestarium.

Here I am, writing first thing on on a Saturday morning from my bed while my husband shows me pictures of corgis. If I had a cup of coffee, I would feel like a real writer, but that requires actual movement. Who brings the coffee to all those writers who take pictures of their laptops while snug in their beds? My husband doesn’t even know how to use my coffee maker and my kids are out of town.

I meant to blog yesterday, but the day got away from me. I was pretty productive, but in a non-fiber way. Sometimes your hands need a break and honestly, I needed one. I haven’t been a good spinner, taking breaks when I should…and that last bobbin was a real slog for me.

My Bunny Butt Fiber and a bobbin of blue and purple Red Fish Dye Works Camel/Silk.

How do I fix that situation? By starting another bobbin, of course! This time I am justifying it by spinning it thicker than the previous two bobbins. Plus, it’s Loki fiber from my good friend David at Octarine Fibers…so I can’t wait to see how it spins up!

Getting my “Nerd” on…

One of my new friends (thanks to Twitter), Angelique, is a super awesome comic nerd! Not too long ago, she invited me to something called The League of Extraordinary Ladies Craftacularstravaganza being held at Meltdown Comics here in Los Angeles. Hell, how can my inner nerd say no to something like that? A craft fair?! At a comic store?! Puh-Leeez!

So I grabbed Mallory and after having a lovely kabab dinner and we headed down there to do a little holiday shopping!

LxL @ Meltdown

LxL in the back room at Meltdown!

It’s a small space, but they had some really great vendors!

(I’m pretty sure this is NOT a complete list…)

After getting our shop on…we decided to head back over the hill to get our knit on at a local Starbucks. I needed some super-secret-Christmas-gift-knitting time!

Felted CRAZY!

Friday, May 13th, 2011 | etsy, felting | No Comments

OK, so I have gone a little nutty since starting felting. Now I want to felt down my stash…well not ALL of it…just the “less than 4oz.” bunch of stuff. Ya know, the amounts to small to get any REAL yarn spun out of.

My first felted bowl!

It has a lot more sparkle!

My first felted bowl!

The bottom...

I am not sure you can really get the feel of all the sparkle this has. I took a batt that I had gotten a couple years back from artclub. I stabbed the hell out of it, scalded it, rubbed it like crazy and let it dry.

I still have plenty left over to make more. I think maybe my etsy store might get some items this summer!

Friday afternoon…

Saturday, February 12th, 2011 | At the office, blah blah blah, charity, etsy | 1 Comment

Well, things have been more of the same around these parts. ::Sigh:: But I did remember to take a second to make sure that I took a pic of the squares we completed at lunch for our charity knitting project.

First two squares for our charity knitting project.

The first two squares.

Also, I got a package this afternoon that made me smile. Another present! I love trinkets and jewelry. Here is another to add to my collection!

My snitch.

My Snitch.

Thanks Mom for helping me be awesomely nerdy! It’s gorgeous! In case you’re wondering…it came from here.

I am eagerly awaiting my escape from my cubicle so I can go to knitting. I am waiting to see what the consensus is on my ripping out an entire 7 balls of knitting on my coat. So far it is looking like some major frogging will happen, but I am not gonna sweat it.

And so it begins…

Sunday, February 6th, 2011 | blah blah blah, etsy, Field Trip | 2 Comments

The Pageant. My Birthday Pageant.

I woke up on Saturday and I received a package. It was the first thing that happened. It was handed to me before I even brushed my teeth. Woohoo! A birthday present.

Pacman Moleskines....::love::

How cool! Thanks MG!

Then I started getting ready to spend the day in Chinatown. My daughter and I were going to meet my friend MeiLan for dim sum at Empress Pavilion and then check out the Golden Dragon Parade.

The jello is all she'll eat here...

Chinatown.

We did all sorts of things. A little browsing in some shops and headed to try some boba tea (it was my first time)! We walked down Hill Street and found a nice spot on the curb to check everything out.

MeiLan brought knitting. I, however, did not.

Last year the parade was on my actual birthday…so I like to pretend that the people of Chinatown are having a parade in my honor. This year they are celebrating The Year of The Rabbit. I was born in the year of the Rabbit too…

These dragons were stuck in front of us for awhile...

I love when the kids come by...

Yup, the same dragon...

Getting red envelopes...

Year of the Rabbit....and the bunny is running after his group.

Me and my girl.

MeiLan and her boyfriend left the parade early, so my and my girl wandered around Chinatown for a bit after the parade had finished. We stumbled upon a craft fair that had a bunch of etsy sellers. I grabbed a bunch of business cards so I might purchase something later. There were a ton of jewelry booths and I am a sucker for weird or unique jewelry. There was also a place called the Flock Shop that items made by many of the sellers that were outside at booths. We stopped at Wonder Bakery too before we left to head back to the car. Yum!

Busy work and experiments

I am never one to turn down a challenge…or am I just piling on myself at this point? I can’t really say, but there sure is a ton of stuff happening here.

First off, I finished my bobbin of Enchanted Hollow from FreckleFaceFibers. I’ll be plying it later.

Enchanted Hollow...just started spinning...

Enchanted Hollow

What I finished spinning a few nights ago.

There are more colors hiding in the center of that bobbin...

Then I went to Friday night knitting at my LYS. I worked on my capelet…

Capelet progress...

Capelet progress...it feels like I purl for miles on those wrong side rows

And what is this?

photo.JPG

Yup...it made an appearance.

Holy crap! I’m actually working on it?!? Keep your pants on…I did one whole repeat. That’s 8 rows for those of you keeping track at home…

photo.JPG

My sweater and it's fraternal twin.

Valsez dans l’abîme. ::sigh::

I also scored two skeins of Wollmeise off of Angelique. Stalking their website is her new thing. While we all stared at and fondled the yarn, Dana and I were bouncing sweater ideas off each other. I think I may just have an idea for a new sweater. This time I should make sure I take notes so maybe I can write a pattern to sell in my etsy shop. Ya know, like I was *supposed* to do with my Bruised Sweater.

Anyway, I sent Ang off with some other color ideas, but I need to confirm what I want her to stalk for me. I need two more colors for this experimental sweater. Intarsia? Maybe…

And speaking of experiments, I am now in possession of Gray’s head once again. This time I’m going to sew some fleecey skin on him. I didn’t take any pics yet because I haven’t officially started working on it, but you can check out some of the progress on the bigfootandgray blog.

Hell might have just frozen over…

…I started an etsy shop.

What it looks like so far...

What it looks like so far...

You can probably see what I have in the shop over to your right there…

Yeah, your other right….

Ya know, the side with all those widgets. See ————->

It’s not much, but it’s a start. 🙂
